Smilovich wraps up four-year career

Smilovich closed out her career as a four-year letterwinner for the Ravens on Saturday afternoon at SNHU.MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 16, 2011) – Senior Lauren Smilovich (Meriden, Conn.) played in the final match of her four-year career on Saturday afternoon, though the Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, at Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference play.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce concludes its season at 1-12 (1-12 Northeast-10), while Southern New Hampshire wraps up the regular season at 14-2 (13-0 Northeast-10).
Southern New Hampshire did not give up a single game in doubles play, as the Penmen posted a trio of 8-0 victories to jump to a 3-0 lead in the match.
In singles play, it would be much of the same, as SNHU let only five games slip away over the course of the six matches, though one flight was decided by default. Freshman Natasha McCarthy (Rindge, N.H.) put forth the strongest effort of the day for Franklin Pierce at second singles, but ultimately fell, 6-1, 6-2. Smilovich wrapped up her career with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat at third singles, though she did finish with three singles wins and a doubles win over the course of 2010-11.
For SNHU, all six players won at both singles and doubles on Saturday. Senior Catalina Echeverry, junior Samantha Jean and freshman Kirsten Jean all dropped just one game on the day, as each won their doubles match, 8-0, before posting identical, 6-0, 6-1 wins in singles play.
