MANSFIELD, Mass. (September 27, 2022) -- Junior Aino Martikainen (Järvenpää, Finland) of the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team has been named as Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week, for the week ending on Sept. 25, as announced on Monday afternoon by the league office.

Martikainen headed up a back line which produced a pair of shutouts in a 2-0-0 week for the Ravens. On Wednesday night, the defense held No. 8 nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire off the board, and allowed just three shots on goal, in a 1-0 win at home. It was a 1-0 score line on Saturday as well at Sodexo Field, as the Ravens ceded just one shot on goal against visiting Southern Connecticut State. At the other end of the field, Martikainen contributed one shot attempt on the week.

On the season, Martikainen and the Franklin Pierce defense have yielded just 0.75 goals and 4.13 shots on goal per game.

Martikainen and the Ravens (6-1-1, 3-1-0 NE10) are on the road on Tuesday afternoon, for a 4 p.m. NE10 contest at Le Moyne.
