RINDGE, N.H. (October 30, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team put the home portion of its schedule to rest in style on Wednesday night, as the Ravens chalked up a 4-0 victory over visiting Saint Michael's at Sodexo Field. Freshman forward Marissa Orlando (Peabody, Mass.) bookended the scoring with a pair of goals to lead the way in the Northeast-10 Conference contest, as Franklin Pierce snapped a four-game losing streak.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 5-8-1 (4-7-0 NE10), while Saint Michael's falls to 5-8-2 (1-8-2 NE10).

A pair of strikes less than four minutes apart in the middle of the first half would give the Ravens all the offense they needed on Wednesday night. Orlando opened the scoring in the 24th minute, as she put away a rebound for her second goal of the season. The original shot by senior forward Veronica Marques (Sao Paulo, Brazil) banged off the left post, but the rebound stayed in play and came bounding to the top of the six-yard box. Orlando was charging towards the goalmouth, was the first to get to the rebound and pumped it into the right side of the net to open the scoring.

Just 3:39 later, in the 28th minute, a free kick from approximately 30 yards out on the left-wing side allowed the Ravens to double their lead. Sophomore midfielder Jessica Magerman (Bellingham, Mass.) took the free kick, but simply touched it off to her right for senior midfielder Gabi Pereira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil). Pereira took a few strides with the ball towards the middle of the field and then drove a shot inside the right post for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Franklin Pierce continued to build the lead just after halftime, in the 47th minute. From the right-wing side, freshman midfielder Camille Sahirul (North Haven, Conn.) played the ball across the top of the penalty area to freshman midfielder Tess McKenzie (Warren, R.I.), who was on the edge of the box, in line with the left post. McKenzie lofted her shot into the top-left corner of the net just 69 seconds into the second half to tally her second goal of the campaign.

Orlando capped the scoring in the 77th minute to create the 4-0 final. From just outside the top of the penalty area and slightly towards the left-wing side, Orlando put a seemingly harmless shot on net, as the ball was headed straight for Saint Michael's junior goalkeeper Liz Vallatini. However, Vallatini muffed the shot, and the ball slipped between her legs and into the goal for Orlando's second score of the night. It marked Orlando's first career multiple-goal game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Casey Kane (Millis, Mass.) stopped the only shot on goal Saint Michael's sent her way to pick up the win (4-6-1) and her first shutout of the season. Vallatini (4-7-1) made seven saves against 11 shots on goal and suffered the loss in the Saint Michael's net.

Franklin Pierce posted advantages of 20-5 in shot attempts, 11-1 in shots on goal and 8-3 in corner kicks in the contest.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Nov. 2, when they travel to Le Moyne for an NE10 contest. Game time is set for 11 a.m. at Ted Grant Field in Syracuse, N.Y.
