Women’s Soccer Upended at Adelphi, 1-0

Franklin Pierce women's soccer

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (October 19, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team was fairly dominant statistically on Saturday night, but was unable to solve Adelphi sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Hofmeier at Motamed Field. Instead, a 55th-minute goal from sophomore midfielder Jacklyn Lada stood as the game's only goal, as the Ravens suffered a 1-0 defeat to the homestanding Panthers in the Northeast-10 Conference contest.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 4-7-1 (3-6-0 NE10), while Adelphi improves to 8-3-0 (7-2-0 NE10).

The Ravens had no trouble generating offensive pressure on Saturday night, though they were never able to finish off a goal. Franklin Pierce finished the game with advantages of 19-10 in shot attempts, 13-2 in shots on goal and 5-1 in corner kicks.

After the first half went scoreless, Adelphi struck for the game's only goal just under 10 minutes into the second stanza. After the Panthers won a free kick approximately 30 yards from goal on the right sideline, graduate student back Tori Flaherty lined up to take it. She served the ball into the middle of the penalty area. Franklin Pierce sophomore goalkeeper Casey Kane (Millis, Mass.) came off her line to challenge the feed, but was unable to get to the ball. Instead, it fell to the head of Lada, who redirected it into the vacated net for her second goal of the season.

Kane (3-5-1) faced only two shots on goal and made one save while suffering the loss in the Franklin Pierce net. At the other end of the field, Hofmeier (1-0-0) piled up 13 saves to chalk up her fifth career shutout.

The Ravens return to the field on Tuesday, Oct. 22, when they return home to host American International in an NE10 contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
