Women’s Lacrosse Whitewashes Felician, 18-0

LYNDHURST, N.J. (March 22, 2019) – It was all Ravens all the time on Friday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation complex, as the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team was not slowed by chilly conditions in a non-conference contest at Felician. Freshman attack Savannah Ernst (American Fork, Utah) went for five points, on four goals and an assist, and sophomore attack Caroline Lounsbury (Franklin, Mass.) scored four goals of her own, as the Ravens cruised to an 18-0 victory.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 4-2, while Felician falls to 0-4. For Franklin Pierce, it marked the first shutout in program history.

Things started a little slow under the lights on Friday night, as Franklin Pierce led just 2-0 through the first 10 minutes, but the Felician dam would not hold in the next 10. The Ravens poured in five goals, from five different goal scorers, in a span of 8:25, to push the lead out to 7-0 and seize control of the game. Three more goals in a span of just 2:13 in the final 10 minutes of the stanza made it 10-0 heading into halftime. Ernst put home three of her four goals in the first half, while Lounsbury found the back of the net twice.

It was more of the same in the second half, as the Ravens scored eight more goals to create the 18-0 final. Lounsbury scored twice more in the second period, while junior attack Sarah Heckman (Atkinson, N.H.) put away a pair as well. In all, Franklin Pierce outshot Felician 42-5 on the night, including a 33-3 advantage in shots on goal.

The attack was balanced for Franklin Pierce, as 10 different players scored at least once. In addition to Ernst's five-point outing and Lounsbury's four, Heckman and freshman attack Morgan Baxendale (Orchard Park, N.Y.) tallied three points each for the Ravens, as the former scored three times and the latter tacked on a goal and two assists.

Junior defender Sarah Waldrep (North Andover, Mass.) snagged three ground balls and four draw controls to lead Franklin Pierce in both categories. She was also one of three Ravens to cause two turnovers, as she was joined by junior defender Jill Koop (Youngstown, N.Y.) and junior attack Bella Lima (Hudson, Mass.).

For Felician, freshman midfielder Jada Blaze collected a game-high five draw controls and junior goalkeeper Megan Euler led all players with four ground balls. Euler also caused a pair of turnovers.

Freshman goalkeeper Megan Bacik (Huntington Station, N.Y.) logged the first half in the Franklin Pierce net and picked up the win (4-2) after stopping the only shot she faced. Junior Casey Butera (West Milford, N.J.) stopped both shots on her goal in the second half to finish off the shutout.

At the other end of the field, Euler (0-4) endured the duration in the Felician crease. She finished with 15 saves against 33 shots.

The Ravens return to the field on Sunday, March 24, when they travel to Caldwell for a non-conference contest. Game time is set for noon at Essex Valley School in West Caldwell, N.J.
