Ravens Fall to the Sharks 3-2 after Close Contest in Long Island

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (2/7/25) - The Franklin Pierce women's ice hockey team battled hard but came up just short in a competitive matchup against Long Island, falling 3-2 on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Ravens started the game right where they left off against Stonehill. Junior forward Anna Caumo (Brunico, Italy) lit the lamp to put the Ravens in front 1-0 in the first two minutes of the first period. However, the Sharks would respond. Carrigan Umpherville put the Sharks on the board to tie the game and later Sarah Rourke would give the Sharks a 2-1 lead going into the intermission.
- In the second period, the Sharks would add to their lead. Carrigan Umpherville notched her second goal of the contest, extending the Sharks' lead to 3-1 going into the third.
- The Ravens responded early in the third period. Senior forward and captain Mikayla Kelley (Eagan, MN) buried the Ravens' second goal of the game to cut the Sharks' lead to 3-2. However, the Ravens could not complete the comeback, losing 3-2 and officially losing the season series to the Sharks.
BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS
- The Ravens could not capitalize on the power play. The Ravens went 0 for 5 with the extra skater and could not find an answer to the best penalty kill in NEWHA.
- The Ravens also barely outshot the Sharks, shooting 29 shots on goal to the Sharks' 28. Both teams had an even amount of chances offensively.
- The Sharks narrowly won the faceoff battle, winning 25 faceoffs to the Ravens' 23.
UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens played a tight game against the second-best team in NEWHA, and they will get another crack at them tomorrow afternoon. Puck drop is at 2:00 pm at the Northwell Health Ice Center on Saturday the 8th.
