Parker Pair Leads Women’s Hockey at Saint Michael’s, 3-0

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (November 9, 2019) – On Saturday afternoon, the Franklin Pierce University women's hockey team took to the ice at Cairns Arena for the second of a two-game series against New England Women's Hockey Alliance opponent Saint Michael's College. Junior forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.) put home a pair of goals to build a 2-0 lead, and an insurance marker for freshman forward Katelyn Brightbill (Annville, Pa.) made it a 3-0 final as the Ravens finished off a weekend sweep of the Purple Knights.

With the win, the Ravens improve to 6-2-0 (5-1-0 NEWHA), while Saint Michael's falls to 2-4-0 (2-4-0 NEWHA).

The Ravens piled up an advantage of 46-22 in shots on the afternoon. Sophomore goaltender Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.) saved all 22 shots fired her way and recorded the victory (4-2-0), which was her third shutout of the season and the 11th of her career. On the other side of the ice, senior goaltender Vika Simons (2-4-0) made 43 saves on 46 shots and was the hard-luck loser.

After the first period went scoreless, the first goal of the game came at the 6:42 mark of the second period. Parker intercepted a pass behind the net, wrapped around the right side of the goal, and tucked in her third goal of the season before Simons could get there.

Parker would score the game's second goal as well, just 50 seconds into the third period and shorthanded. Parker stole the puck in the offensive zone and carried the puck to the front of the net before placing a shot in the top-right corner.

The insurance tally came on the power play at the 18:23 mark to create the 3-0 final. Brightbill put the icing on the cake for the Ravens after junior forward Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass.) won a defensive zone faceoff and moved the puck up the left-wing boards. Brightbill took off the other way from there and skated the puck deep into the Saint Michael's zone. She crossed into the slot and shot the puck over the shoulder of Simmons for her third goal of the season.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-16, when they return home to host Sacred Heart in a two-game NEWHA series. Opening faceoff is set for 8 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
