Women’s Ice Hockey’s Kniss Named NEWHA Rookie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. (February 11, 2020) – Freshman forward Becca Kniss (Eden Prairie, Minn.) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team has been named New England Women’s Hockey Alliance Rookie of the Week, for the week ending on Feb. 9, as announced on Tuesday by the league office.

It is Kniss’ second NEWHA award of the season, as she earned Player of the Week accolades in December. It is the fifth Rookie of the Week award earned by the Ravens this winter.

Kniss piled up seven points on the week, on two goals and five assists, to go with 12 shots and a +3 plus/minus. She had the most productive day of her young career last Tuesday, as she scored twice and dished out three assists, to notch five points in an 8-0 win over Anna Maria. Kniss also contributed an assist in each game over the weekend, as the Ravens split with Long Island.

On the season, Kniss has played in all 29 games for the Ravens and ranks third on the team in scoring. The NEWHA’s leading freshman scorer, she is averaging more than a point per game (1.07), with 31 points on 12 goals and 19 assists. Kniss has mixed in two power-play goals and a game-winning goal, and is +10 with a team-high 117 shots.

The Ravens (19-10-0) will be looking to secure their second straight 20-win season this weekend, when they head to Post for an NEWHA weekend series on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15. Opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday at Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, Conn.
