WINCHENDON, Mass. (January 28, 2020) – A pair of first-period goals from senior defenseman Delaney Guimont (Bedford, N.H.) would be all the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team needed on Tuesday night at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Still, the Ravens added three more scores for good measure, and Guimont finished the night with 2-1-3, as Franklin Pierce rolled to a 5-1 win over intrastate rival Saint Anselm in New England Women's Hockey Alliance play.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 17-7-0 (10-4-0 NEWHA), while Saint Anselm falls to 13-10-3 (10-5-1 NEWHA). The Ravens took three of the four games in the season series between the two squads.

Guimont would put Franklin Pierce ahead to stay in the first period, as she chalked up the first multiple-goal game of her career in her 112th collegiate contest. She opened the scoring with a great individual effort, after fellow senior defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) deflected a Saint Anselm dump-in and the Hawks were unable to give pursuit due to a delayed-offside situation. Guimont collected the puck behind her own net and tore off down the left side and into the neutral zone. As she crossed the offensive blue line, she made her way to the right-wing side of the ice and ultimately capped the coast-to-coast rush by burying a shot from the middle of the right circle, for her fifth goal of the season, at the 13:30 mark.

Her second score of the stanza came with the nation's second-ranked power-play unit (30.6%) on the ice. In the right circle, freshman forward Becca Kniss (Eden Prairie, Minn.) worked to get the puck to junior forward Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass.), who carried down below the goal line. From there, Amato found just enough of a passing lane to fire a pass across the slot and over to Guimont in the left circle. The latter provided the one-time finish at 18:08 for what would stand as the game-winning goal. The Ravens chalked up a 16-4 advantage in shots in the opening frame and would go on to finish the night 2-for-5 on the power play.

Franklin Pierce had the only goal of the second period, at 10:02, to push the lead out to 3-1. Kniss picked up her second helper of the game, as she had the original shot on the play, from the edge of the right-wing circle. The rebound sparked a scramble for the puck in front of the Saint Anselm goal, and Amato was able to jam home her 10th goal of the campaign from the top of the crease.

Saint Anselm cut the gap to 3-1 just 4:18 into the third, after the Franklin Pierce defense turned the puck over behind its own net. Junior forward Madison Sprague intercepted a D-to-D pass behind the cage, popped out on the right-wing side and sent a centering feed to sophomore forward Kelly Golini. Golini had the quick finish at the hash marks for her eighth of the season.

Saint Anselm enjoyed a 14-9 advantage in shots in the third period, and at times after the Golini goal had Franklin Pierce scrambling in its own end a bit. However, the Ravens kept any further damage off the board, including a crucial penalty kill just prior to the midpoint of the period, and eventually earned a power play of their own at 13:14. Franklin Pierce capitalized on good perimeter puck movement to set up the all-important insurance marker at 14:36. From the left circle, freshman forward Katelyn Brightbill (Annville, Pa.) sent the puck up top for freshman defenseman Stefanie Caban (Fitchburg, Mass.). Caban quickly moved the puck over to the right circle for Prentiss, who put a laser of a shot into the top of the net for her team-leading 14th of the year.

Junior forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.) put the game on ice at the 17:39 mark. Guimont picked up the secondary assist on the play, which once again saw Amato provide the setup from below the goal line on the right side. She was able to slip a pass to the right post, where Parker knocked home her 13th goal of the season to create the 5-1 final.

Sophomore goaltender Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.) was beaten only off the defensive turnover behind her net and stopped 23 of 24 shots to pick up the win (13-7-0) in front of the Franklin Pierce net. Junior Kia Castonguay (2-5-1) made 27 saves against 32 shots and suffered the loss for Saint Anselm, which was outshot on the night, 32-24.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday and Saturday, when they travel to Sacred Heart for a pivotal NEWHA weekend series. Opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, Conn.
