WINCHENDON, Mass. (January 24, 2020) – The Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team moved back into league play in style on Friday night, as the Ravens rolled up a 7-2 win on home ice over New England Women's Hockey Alliance foe Saint Michael's. Junior forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.) and freshman forward Cassidy Jones (Stillwater, Minn.) had two goals each for the Ravens at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena, while freshman forward Stefanie Caban (Fitchburg, Mass.) dished out a trio of assists.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 16-6-0 (9-3-0 NEWHA) and has won five in a row, while Saint Michael's falls to 3-16-4 (2-12-1 NEWHA). The two teams will meet again at 1 p.m. Saturday to wrap up the weekend series as well as the four-game season series.

Parker opened the scoring at the 12:58 mark of the first period, with her 11th goal of the season, as she jammed home a loose puck amid a mad scramble in the Saint Michael's crease.

The Purple Knights made it a 1-1 game at 17:27. Senior defenseman Alissa Sullivan batted down an attempted dump-in by Franklin Pierce, and the loose puck found senior forward Jordan Monbouquette. Monbouquette quickly worked the puck ahead and was able to spring freshman forward Maeghan Kennard in on a partial breakaway. Kennard made her move to the left and put a backhand shot home on the short side for her eighth goal of the season.

Franklin Pierce reclaimed the lead before the first intermission, with a power-play tally at 19:26. From the left point, Caban sent the puck to senior defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) at the top of the right circle. Prentiss sent a pass down low for junior forward Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass.), who put a quick shot home from outside the right post for her fifth of the season.

The Ravens ballooned the lead up to 5-1 with the first three goals of the second period. After Massaro forced a turnover, Parker and freshman forward Ava Kison (Eau Claire, Wis.) executed a nifty give-and-go on the left-wing side to set up Parker's second goal of the night at 3:02.

Next, sophomore defenseman Kiki Doucette (Bridgewater, Mass.) backhanded the puck out of the zone for junior forward Emily Kramer (Rockville, Md.), who took off the other way and led a rush down the left wing. Deep in the offensive end, Kramer centered for Jones, who had the finish out front for her third of the campaign, at 8:56.

The NEWHA's most dangerous power play (31.2%) struck again at 15:22. Caban set up Prentiss at the top of the right circle, and the latter picked the top-right corner of the net from there, for her 12th of the season, tying Parker for the team goal-scoring lead. The goal chased Saint Michael's senior goaltender Vika Simons from the net, in favor of sophomore Gabriella Dicomitis, who would go the rest of the way in the crease for the Purple Knights.

Saint Michael's made it a 5-2 game before the second intermission. Sullivan held the puck in at the left point and worked it over to senior defenseman Arianna Boscia outside the top of the right circle. Boscia wired a shot to the top-right corner of the net from there, at 17:29, for her fifth goal of the season.

Franklin Pierce used a pair of third-period insurance markers to create the 7-2 final. First, Caban held the puck in at the left point and gave it to senior forward Meg Gilbride (Braintree, Mass.), who had her shot from the top of the left-wing circle deflected off-target by the defense. Gilbride tracked the puck down behind the net and fed freshman forward Reece Diener (McKinney, Texas) at the right post for the latter's sixth of the season, at 3:01.

Jones capped the scoring at 19:12, to complete her first career multiple-goal game. Diener and sophomore forward Bridget Fagan (Millis, Mass.) combined to spring Jones out of the defensive end and on the rush the other way. Jones wound up making a circle tour of the offensive end, but eventually walked the puck off the left half-wall, beat a pair of defenders on the way to the slot and snapped home her fourth of the season.

Sophomore goaltender Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.) finished with 11 saves against 13 shots to pick up the win (12-6-0) in front of the Franklin Pierce net. Simons (3-15-3) made 22 stops against 27 shots and suffered the loss before being removed after the fifth Franklin Pierce goal. Dicomitis made 13 saves against 15 shots the rest of the way for Saint Michael's.
