Women’s Ice Hockey Has 21 Earn NEWHA All-Academic Team Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. (August 27, 2020) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team has had 21 student-athletes named to the New England Women’s Hockey Association All-Academic Team for the 2019-20 season, as announced earlier this week by the NEWHA.

GLOUCESTER, Mass. (July 24, 2020) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team has had 10 student-athletes named as All-American Scholars by the American Hockey Coaches Association, as announced earlier this week by the AHCA.

Women’s Ice Hockey’s Bridgette Prentiss Selected by Metropolitan Riveters on Second Day of NWHL Draft

NEW YORK (April 29, 2020) – Senior defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team was selected on Wednesday night by the Metropolitan Riveters in the fourth round (21 overall) of the National Women’s Hockey League Entry Draft. Prentiss is the first player in program history to be drafted by a professional hockey league.

Women’s Ice Hockey Edged at Saint Anselm, 2-1 (5 OT), in Record-Breaking NEWHA Semifinal

MANCHESTER, N.H. (February 22, 2020) – It was one for the ages on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Arena, in the semifinal round of the New England Women’s Hockey Alliance Tournament. The second-seeded Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team struck in the opening seven minutes. Third-seeded Saint Anselm evened things early in the third. Then, the two teams played more than a game-and-a-half worth of time without another goal. When all was eventually done, the game stood as the longest game in the history of women’s college hockey. Unfortunately for the Ravens, it was Saint Anselm which finally ended things, as junior forward Madison Sprague tipped home a shot by junior defenseman Kathleen LeFebre at the 7:24 mark of the fifth overtime to lift the Hawks to a 2-1 win. Sophomore goaltender Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.) bettered her own program record by more than 20 saves, as she finished with 79 saves in the loss, just 10 saves shy of the NCAA Division I record.

Being a member of any national sports team is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for any athlete, and it’s an experience Franklin Pierce University freshman Stefanie Caban has already had. The current women’s ice hockey defensemen for the Ravens was invited to be a member of the United States Women’s Ball Hockey team three years ago, and compete alongside other players from across the United States, including those in the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL).

PREVIEW: Women’s Ice Hockey to Meet Saint Anselm in NEWHA Tournament Semifinal

RINDGE, N.H. (February 21, 2020) – Having already established a new program record for wins in a season, the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team will open postseason play, and pursuit of its first-ever league title, on Saturday night. The second-seeded Ravens will meet third-seeded Saint Anselm in the semifinal round of the New England Women’s Hockey Alliance Tournament, which is being hosted by Saint Anselm, at Sullivan Arena in Manchester, N.H. Opening faceoff for the day’s second semifinal is set for 4 p.m.

(February 19, 2020) – Senior defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) and freshman forward Becca Kniss (Eden Prairie, Minn.) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team both hauled in major year-end awards from the New England Women’s Hockey Alliance on Wednesday, to highlight four All-NEWHA selections and seven total honorees in the league’s year-end awards. Prentiss was selected as the NEWHA Defender of the Year, while Kniss earned Rookie of the Year accolades.

(February 18, 2020) – Senior defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team has been named New England Women’s Hockey Alliance Rookie of the Week, for the week ending on Feb. 16, as announced on Tuesday by the league office. It is the third time this season she has garnered the award.

Parker Joins 100-Point Club, Women’s Ice Hockey Wins at Post, 5-1

SHELTON, Conn. (February 15, 2020) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team took care of business again on Saturday afternoon to cap the regular season with a 5-1 win over Post in New England Women’s Hockey Alliance play at Sports Center of Connecticut. It was the 21st win of the season for the Ravens, which established a new program record. Junior forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.) had a goal and an assist, including the 100th point of her career (43-57-100), while senior defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) had a pair of goals and an assist in the victory.

Milestones Abound as Women’s Ice Hockey Takes Care of Post, 5-1

SHELTON, Conn. (February 14, 2020) – First, senior defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) dished out her second assist of the game, to record her 41st point of the season (17-24-41) and establish a new program record. Later, junior forward Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass.) put home her second goal of the game to notch the 100th point of her career (55-45-100). It all added up to a 5-1 win on the road for the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team, as the Ravens dispatched Post in New England Women’s Hockey Alliance play at Sports Center of Connecticut. It was the 20th win of the season for Franklin Pierce, which reached that plateau for the second straight season.

(February 8, 2020) – A day after surrendering seven goals and coming up empty on the power play, the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team clamped down and capitalized on its chances on Saturday afternoon at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. The Ravens made Long Island pay for early penalty trouble, as a pair of first-period 5-on-3 goals stood as the difference in the end. Fittingly, senior defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) led the charge with a goal and an assist on Senior Day, as Franklin Pierce chalked up a 3-1 win over the visiting Sharks in New England Women’s Hockey Alliance play.

(February 7, 2020) – A wild second period highlighted Friday night at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena, as the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team and Long Island combined for eight goals in the frame. When the dust settled, LIU held a 5-4 lead after two, and the Sharks added a pair of insurance markers in the third to pick up a 7-4 win in New England Women’s Hockey Alliance play. Freshman forward Carrigan Umpherville had a hat trick, including the game-winning goal, for LIU, while freshman forward Megan Bouveur piled up five points on a goal and four assists.

(February 4, 2020) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team barely needed to break a sweat on Tuesday night, in the team’s final non-conference contest of the season. The Ravens held visiting Anna Maria to just four shots on goal on the way to an 8-0 win at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Freshman forward Becca Kniss (Eden Prairie, Minn.) had the biggest day of her young career, as she piled up five points on two goals and three assists to lead the way.

Women’s Ice Hockey Tripped up at Sacred Heart, 3-2

SHELTON, Conn. (January 31, 2020) – Both offenses were a little more lively on Saturday afternoon, as compared to Friday at Sports Center of Connecticut, as were the power-play units, but the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team came out on the short end again on the road at Sacred Heart. A second-period goal from senior forward Maddie Bishop stood as the difference, and sophomore defenseman Kennedy Spiering chalked up three assists, as the Pioneers dealt the Ravens a 3-2 defeat in New England Women’s Hockey Alliance play.

SHELTON, Conn. (January 31, 2020) – Despite boasting the league’s most productive power play, the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team came up empty in eight chances with the man-advantage on Friday afternoon. Instead, the Ravens were limited to just 20 shots, and were held off the scoreboard entirely at Sports Center of Connecticut. Sacred Heart managed just 21 shots of its own, but did find the net three times to deal visiting Franklin Pierce a 3-0 loss to open a pivotal New England Women’s Hockey Alliance weekend series.
