Women’s Ice Hockey Routs Post in Season Opener, 9-0

SHELTON, Conn. (October 12, 2018) – Four first-period goals were more than enough on Friday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team rolled to a 9-0 win over Post in New England Women's Hockey Alliance Play at Sports Center of Connecticut. Three different players scored their first goal in a Franklin Pierce uniform in the victory. Sophomore forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.) scored once and added three assists, as one of three Ravens with four-point afternoons.

With the win, Franklin Pierce opens its season at 1-0-0 (1-0-0 NEWHA), while Post falls to 0-3-0 (0-1-0 NEWHA). The two teams will wrap up the weekend series on Saturday at Sports Center of Connecticut. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m.

The goals came early and they came often on Friday afternoon. The Ravens struck four times in the opening stanza and never looked back. Freshman defenseman Kiki Doucette (Bridgewater, Mass.) opened the scoring with her first collegiate goal at the 4:56 mark, off of assists from Parker and junior forward Kelsey Holmes (Warwick, R.I.). Parker chalked up her second assist of the night at 8:38, as she teamed with sophomore forward Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass.) to set up a power-play goal for junior defenseman Delaney Guimont (Bedford, N.H.). At 16:05, it was the first of the sophomore campaign for last season's NEWHA Co-Rookie of the Year, forward Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass.), who struck in a delayed-penalty situation with the Ravens already on the power play, off of assists from junior forward Meg Gilbride (Braintree, Mass.) and sophomore defenseman Carolyn Drowne (Bridgewater, Mass.). Massaro capped the period's scoring at 19:35, while Gilbride and Drowne each picked up their second assist of the day.

Three more goals in the second period stretched the lead out to 7-0. In her Franklin Pierce debut after transferring from Post, sophomore forward Ann Margaret DiSciscio (Litchfield, N.H.) struck against her former teammates at 4:26, for her first goal as a Raven, off of assists from Parker and sophomore defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.). Parker capped her four-point day (1-3-4) with a goal at 7:20, while Gilbride (0-3-3) and Massaro (1-2-3) each finished off three-point afternoons with assists on the play. Freshman forward Jazmyne Beck (Kalispell, Mont.) rounded out the middle stanza with her first collegiate goal at 11:04, with Drowne and Prentiss picking up the assists.

The Ravens added two more in the third to create the 9-0 final. Junior forward Alli Sugar (Canton, Conn.) got on the board with a power-play marker at 13:50, with assists from Prentiss and freshman forward Stephanie Proteau (Wolcott, Conn.), who notched her first career point. Amato capped the scoring at 16:21, while Prentiss and Drowne each notched their fourth assist of the game.
