Plethora of Shots Leads Women’s Ice Hockey over Salve Regina, 3-1

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (January 19, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team piled up a shots advantage of 48-21 on the road on Saturday night. Sophomore defenseman Carolyn Drowne (Bridgewater, Mass.), junior forward Meg Gilbride (Braintree, Mass.) and sophomore forward Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass.) all notched a pair of assists each for Franklin Pierce in the victory.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 13-8-0, while Salve Regina falls to 4-13-2.

Franklin Pierce chalked up 20 shots in the first period, to just six for Salve Regina, but the opening stanza would go scoreless. The Ravens would then open the scoring 6:22 into the second period, as sophomore forward Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass.) cashed in her ninth goal of the season, with Drowne and Gilbride providing the assists.

Salve Regina evened things up just over four minutes later, with a power-play tally at the 10:50 mark. It was the fifth goal of the season for junior forward Lexie Anderson, off of an assist from senior forward Taylor Chisholm.

The Ravens would take the lead for good with just 43 seconds to play in the second frame. The eventual game-winner came courtesy of sophomore forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.), who notched her team-leading 12th goal of the season, while Gilbride and Amato tacked on the assists.

Franklin Pierce picked up an insurance marker in the latter half of the third period to create the 3-1 final. This time, it was the second goal of the campaign for freshman forward Stephanie Proteau (Wolcott, Conn.), while Drowne and Amato picked up assists.
