Champions Again: Women’s Golf Wins Second Conference Championship in Three Years, Rittawee Captures Medalist Honors

Women's golf Northeast-10 Conference champions

VERONA, N.Y (October 14, 2019) For the second time in three years, the Franklin Pierce University women's golf program has been crowned champions of the Northeast-10 Conference bringing more hardware back to the Granite State.

The Ravens dominated the competition at the Shenendoah Golf Course at Turning Stone Resort & Casino never trailing across the two rounds. In fact, FPU has not fallen below first at any point during their whole fall schedule, which wrapped up today. Pierce shot a 306 (+18) over the first round and a 316 (+28) second round totaling a 622 (+46) two-day total. They bested runner up Assumption College by 37 strokes en route to their second automatic bid to the NCAA Division II East Super Regional held in spring 2020.

Under the guidance of head coach Tyler Bishop, who kick started the program in 2014-15, the crimson and grey have never finished below second at the league tournament. They have two league championship trophies and four runner-up finishes in that span.

"I'm really proud of how the girls performed the past two days," said Bishop. "They worked hard all season and it was a team effort this week. We are excited and looking forward to be going back to regionals and to compete with the best teams in the region. I'm extremely proud of them."

Raven newcomer Jinnapat Rittawee (Kanchanaburi, Thailand) captured her fourth individual medalist honor shooting a team-low 148 (+4) besting Bianca Cruz-Hernandez of host Le Moyne College by two strokes. Rittawee, an All-Championship Team selection, became the first golfer in program history to record a hole in one, on the 156-yard par-3 ninth hole during the second round. She added one more birdie in the morning to finish with five during the championship.

Senior Taylor Hartley (Canton, Ga.) earned her place on the All-Championship team for the second consecutive year. She subtracted three strokes off her first round scorecard (78, +6) for a 75 (+3) to finish in fourth place at 153 (+9). Sophomore Christine Songcuan (Lancaster, Calif.) joined Rittawee and Hartley on the All-Championship team firing a two-round 158 (+14).

Freshman Alia Godek (Feeding Hills, Mass.) tied for ninth with two other golfers turning in a 163 (+19) scorecard while teammate Zoey Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii), a two-time conference champion along with Harley, deadlocked into 14th place at 167 (+23).

Franklin Pierce will train during the winter before returning to the links for their spring schedule.
