Patterson and Daley Earn Individual Championships, Men’s and Women’s Golf Place First at Assumption

SUTTON, Mass. (April 14, 2019) The no. 2 regionally-ranked Franklin Pierce University men's golf team and the women's golf squad combined for seven top-10 finishes including individual medalist honors by junior Nathan Patterson (Conway, Mass.) and senior Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) as the Crimson and Grey collected two team titles at the two-day Assumption College Invitational hosted by the Blackstone National Saturday and Sunday.

The Pierce men and women never left the top slot on the team leaderboard. The men's squad shot a 598 (+22) over the par 72 6,620 yard course and even knocked six strokes off their round one total. The women's team shot an even 321 (+33) both days for 642 (+66) on the shorter course.

The individual medal was the first of the season for Patterson and only his first top-three tournament finish on the season. The junior transfer fired a 144 (E) scorecard while leading the field in birdies (9) and par 4 scoring (3.90, -2). Daley also brought home her first medal of the campaign and her lone top-three finish of the year shooting a two-round 155 (+11). She totaled an invite high five birdies and 19 pars.

 

Men's Golf

Junior Sam Myers (Colchester, Vt.) placed second golfing from the no. 2 spot in the lineup. He subtracted four swings from his first round tally totaling a 148 (+4). Myers paced the field in par 5 scoring (4.50, -4) and tied with Bill Koch of Post for second in pars (6). Classmate Liam Donahue (Vernon, Conn.) completed the two rounds in fourth place shooting a 151 (+7). Donahue climbed a team-high eight slots from 12th place Saturday knocking off a team-high seven strokes from his day one scorecard.

Keeton Foster (Spofford, N.H.) came in at 11th place producing a 155 (+11) and Anthony Vincequere (Millbury, Mass.) deadlocked into 18th place adding a 162 (+18).

 

Women's Golf

Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) entered Sunday as the clubhouse leader on the women's side, but slid to second place as she tacked on two strokes to her score to finish at 156 (+12). Yamamoto matched Daley's five birdies with five of her own. It was Yamamoto's fourth runner-up showing on the season and fifth top-five finish.

Junior Taylor Hartley (Battle Ground, Wash.) dropped a team-high five strokes Sunday and leapfrogged into fourth place from a share of seventh combining two rounds for a 163 (+19). Freshman Christine Songcuan (Lancaster, Calif.) tied for seventh at 168 (+24) and Sydney Caron (Gorham, Maine) tallied a 189 (+45).

Both golf teams hit the links this weekend for their final regular season invitationals.
