Women’s Golf Ranks 17th at Tough Music City Invitational

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (October 22, 2018) Franklin Pierce University women's golf team captain Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) shot a nine-over par first round to help lead the Ravens to a 17th place showing after the first 18 holes of the extremely competitive 2018 Music City Invitational hosted by Trevecca Nazarene University.

The 2018 Music City Invitational hosted by Trevecca is one of the strongest fall golf fields in NCAA Division II. Four of the 20 teams in the field hail from Trevecca's own Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The field includes the 2018 NCAA Division II Champion and 2016 runner-up in UINDY. The Hounds are two-time national champions, also winning the title in 2015. Another repeat participant is Grand Valley State who finished ninth at nationals in 2018. Franklin Pierce, Findlay, and Ashland all sent individual golfers to the 2018 Championships and joined the 2018 MCI field.

The golfers teed off on the par-72 5,870 yard Old Hickory Country Club course at 9:30 a.m. this morning via a shotgun start.

As a team, the Ravens completed the opening round at 338 (+50). Only eight strokes separate the top four teams, Grand Valley State University, the University of Indianapolis, Tiffin University and Carson-Newman University.

Yamamoto is currently knotted for 39th place on the individual leaderboard in the 104 golfer field by rifling a first round 81 (+9). The junior ranks tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring average (2.50, -2) and connected on two first-round birdies.

Taylor Hartley (Battle Ground, Wash.) totaled an 83 (+11), the second lowest score on the team. Freshman Christine Songcuan (Lancaster, Calif.) dropped in an 85 (+13). Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) and Rosa Jones (Mastic, N.Y.) carded an 89 (+17) and 90 (+18) respectively.

Franklin Pierce tees off again at 9:30 a.m. for the final round.
