Women’s Golf Three Shots Back After First Day of Northeast-10 Championship

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 14, 2018) – Looking to defend its title at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, the Franklin Pierce University women's golf team is only three shots off the pace after Sunday's first round. Junior Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the Ravens with a 76 (+5), and is tied for second after the first of two rounds at the 5965-yard, par-71 Capital Hills at Albany.

Merrimack, which claimed the first three NE10 women's golf titles and was the runner-up a year ago, sits in first place at the halfway point. The Warriors fired a first-round 317 (+33), and were led by senior Krystal Knight, who put together a 2-over-par 73 to take the individual lead after the first day. Merrimack holds a three-shot lead over the Ravens, who tallied a first-round total of 320 (+36). Likewise, Knight holds a three-shot lead over Yamamoto and Assumption junior Catherine French.

The Ravens have three in the top-10 of the 42-golfer field, as junior Taylor Hartley (Battle Ground, Wash.) and freshman Christine Songcuan (Lancaster, Calif.) followed in fourth and tied for eighth, respectively. Hartley shot a first-round 78 (+7), while Songcuan put together a round of 82 (+11).

Senior Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) rounded out the Franklin Pierce scoring quartet on Sunday, while junior Rosa Jones (Mastic, N.Y.) filled out the team's championship quintet. Daley is tied for 15th after a first-round 84 (+13), while Jones is tied for 25th after an opening 87 (+16).

Franklin Pierce is three shots clear of third-place Southern New Hampshire after the first day, as the Penmen shot a 328 (+44). Le Moyne (345, +61) and Saint Rose (351, +67) round out the top-five of the eight-team field at the midway point.

The NE10 Championship is scheduled to conclude on Monday at Capital Hills at Albany.
