#22 Raven Bowling Places 13th In Delaware

MILLSBORO, Del. (November 19, 2017) – The #22 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University women's bowling team notched five wins en route to a 13th place finish at the Hawk Classic hosted by the University of Maryland – Eastern Shore this past weekend.

The Ravens knocked over 11,125 pins and averaged 176.6 per game over the 13 contests. FPU earned wins over nationally-ranked opponents, Saint Francis (Pa.), LIU Brooklyn and Monmouth. No. 5 Sam Houston State took home first place with a 10-3 mark and total pinfall of 13,075. Overall this season, the Ravens hold a 21-18 record on the campaign.

Day One – Friday

The Ravens schedule was tough Friday as they played five nationally-ranked programs. FPU began the day defeating no. 14 Saint Francis (Pa.) 949-874 and no. 16 LIU Brooklyn 828-824 before suffering three defeats to end the day including a setback to no. 4 Vanderbilt. The Ravens 2-3 mark and 4,472 total pinfall had them sitting in 12th place out of 16 teams.

Sophomore Alexa Asta (Jackson, N.J.), senior Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.), sophomore Jenna Harrington (Barneveld, N.Y.), team captain Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) and sophomore Krysta Peirce (Casco, Mich.) rolled the Ravens high string of the day as they tallied a 231 in the victory against Saint Francis (Pa.). The same group also racked up their second-best showing by dropping 223 in the second game versus LIU Brooklyn.

Day Two - Saturday

The Ravens went 2-3 Saturday earning victories over no. 13 ranked Monmouth (902-764) and Coppin State (981-772) and suffered three losses, two to nationally-ranked opponents, no. 12 Delaware State and no. 7 host Maryland – Eastern Shore. FPU ranked in 13th place overall as they have dropped a total of 8,874 pins across the two days.

Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) and Asta were the only two Ravens bowlers ranked within the individual top-50 as Davies was 20th with a team-leading 973 pinfall and 194.60 average while Asta ranked 41st with a 904 and a 180.80 average.

In the teams' upset win versus Monmouth, Asta led all Ravens by bowling a 202 string. Teammate Erin Mastropietro (Mechanicville, N.Y.) tallied a 194 in the win as well. In the next match of the day, Davies and Harrington dropped 228 scores, which was the highest total of the day for FPU. Asta and Kelly contributed 188 and 181 scores respectively.

Day Three – Sunday

In the best of seven game format, The Ravens earned two wins both over Kutztown. The Ravens top two scores of 224 and 215 came in their second duel of the day versus Kutztown as Asta, Skyler Mulligan-Brown (New Milford, Conn.), Davies, Kelly, and Peirce contributed to the high showings.

The Ravens head back to the lanes in January at the KU Invitational.
