MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (December 18, 2010) -- The No. 13-nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team concluded play in the 2010 Cruzin Classic on Saturday with a 67-49 loss to Barry in Miami Shores, Fla. The Ravens fell to 9-3, while Barry improved to 5-3.

A day after she logged a double-double of 34 points and 15 rebounds, Franklin Pierce junior center Jewel White (Worcester, Mass.) totaled a respectable 17 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, two steals and an assist versus Barry.

Freshman guard Brittany Martelle (Brookfield, Conn.) was the Ravens' other double-figure scrorer, as she tossed in 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, including a 4-for-5 effort from behind the arc. Classmate Brooke Coderre (Woonsocket, R.I.) had a solid offensive game with seven points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field and handing out three assists.

Barry had a trio of players score in double-figures, including 17 points apiece from Yvonne Houston and Shanna Suttington. Danielle DeBerry chipped in with 11 points.

Barry used a 10-0 run midway through the first half to turn a slim 7-6 lead into a commanding 17-6 advantage with 11:48 to go until halftime. Suttington dropped in back-to-back three-pointers to kick-start the run.

The Bucs pushed their lead out to 22 at 37-15 with 5:17 left in the half, but Franklin Pierce rallied by scoring 11 of the stanza's final 13 points to pull within 13 at 39-26 at halftime. White had five points during the run, while junior forward Marielle Giroud (Martigny, Switzerland) added four points.

The Ravens continued to try and chip away at the deficit in the second half and did pull to within 54-47 with 4:36 to go in the contest. However, that was as close as Franklin Pierce would get as Barry answered with 10-consecutive points to pull away for the victory.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Jan. 2, when the Ravens play host to Southern New Hampshire at 1:30 p.m. in The Fieldhouse in Rindge.
