Jewel White Earns Pair of All-America Honors; Named to 2011 Daktronics Women's Basketball All-America First-Team
Jewel White only player in the NE-10 to earn All-America accolades from both Daktronics and the WBCA
RINDGE, N.H. (March 23, 2011) -- Franklin Pierce
University women's basketball standout Jewel White
(Worcester, Mass.) on Tuesday evening earned a pair of
All-America honors, including being named to the 2011 Daktronics
All-America First-Team. She also received honorable-mention status
from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and State
Farm. White was the only player from the Northeast-10 Conference to
earn All-America accolades from both organizations.
The 6-0 junior center had an outstanding 2010-11 season, as she
averaged a double-double with 19.4 points and 11.9 rebounds per
game. Her high scoring average came on an impressive 59.7 percent
shooting clip (225-of-377) from the floor. White scored in
double-figures in all 32 games during the season while also
registering 22 double-doubles. She posted double-doubles in six of
the final seven games during the season, including two in the
Northeast-10 Tournament and one in the NCAA Division II Tournament
East Regional.
White ranks among the league and national leaders in several
statistical categories, including first in the NE-10 in scoring,
first in rebounding, first in field goal percentage, first in
offensive rebounding (3.91 orpg), first in defensive rebounding
(8.03 drpg) and third in blocked shots (1.72 bpg). Among the
national leaders, White ranks fourth in field goal percentage,
sixth in rebounding, 14th in scoring and 58th in blocks.
Tuesday's All-America honors are the latest in a long line of
accolades for White this season. In addition to the two most recent
awards, White has also been named: the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference
Player of the Year; a 2011 All-Northeast-10 First-Team honoree; the
2011 Daktronics East Region Player of the Year; a 2011 Daktronics
All-East Region First-Team honoree; a Northeast-10 All-Championship
Team honoree; and a four-time Northeast-10 Player-of-the-Week
honoree.
The individual awards are exciting for White, but she is even more
proud of the accomplishments the 2010-11 Ravens earned this season.
Franklin Pierce finished the campaign with a 24-8 record
(fourth-straight season with at least 20 wins), finished in second
place in the Northeast-10 standings (after being picked to finish
fourth in the league's preseason coaches poll), earned the No. 2
seed in the NE-10 post-season tournament, advanced to the NE-10
championship game for the third-consecutive season, advanced to the
NCAA Tournament for the fourth-straight year, and was ranked as
high as No. 7 in the country in the USA Today/ESPN WBCA Division II
National Top-25 Poll.
