Simmons, Martinez Headline End of the Year Franklin Pierce Softball Honors

RINDGE, N.H. (May 1, 2019) – Franklin Pierce University softball freshman infielder/catcher Cat Simmons (Pine Plains, N.Y.) has been chosen to the Northeast-10 Conference Softball Third and All-Rookie Team while classmate, freshman catcher Allie Martinez (Upland, Calif.) joined Simmons on the All-Rookie team the league announced Wednesday afternoon after a collection of votes by the leagues head coaches.

Simmons, a two-time NE10 Rookie of the Week choice made the All-Third team as a utility selection. The newcomer played in all 41 games for the Crimson and Grey pacing the Ravens in batting average (.352), slugging percentage (.648), runs scored (22), hits (45), doubles (9), triples (1), stolen bases (4), home runs (9) and RBI (27). Her nine round-trippers tied the single-season program record of nine previously set by Erin Wood in 2016. In the conference rankings, Simmons came in second in homers and third in slugging percentage.

Over the course of the season, Simmons had a 10 game hit streak from March 7th to 17th. At home against Merrimack on April 18th Simmons was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a double, a homer and a career-high four RBI. A couple of days later on April 23rd at home versus Saint Michael's Simmons bashed a walk-off tater in the bottom of the eighth inning giving the Ravens a 3-2 decision.

Martinez appeared in 38 games for FPU slashing .330/.412/.409. She led the squad in on-base percentage (.412), tied Simmons in doubles (9), ranked second in hits (38) and second in walks (15). In the field, Martinez threw out eight base runners which placed her atop the conference leaderboard. Martinez tallied two or more hits 11 times throughout the campaign including three straight games. In a 6-1 win versus East Stroudsburg, Martinez went 3-for-4 in the batter's box with a two-bagger and a personal best two RBI.

The Ravens completed the season 11-30 overall, 7-20 in conference play and 5-16 in the northeast division.
