Rosario Drives in Lone Run During Conference Divisional Defeat at SNHU

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 1, 2019) – Franklin Pierce University softball freshman catcher Cat Simmons (Pine Plains, N.Y.) was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate while sophomore left fielder Ashley Rosario (Queensbury, N.Y.) plated the only run in the game as the Ravens were throttled 22-1 in five innings by Northeast-10 Conference divisional foe Southern New Hampshire University Monday afternoon on the SNHU Softball Field. With the win, the Penmen improve to 21-4, 5-1 NE10 and 4-0 in the Northeast Division. The loss was the 15th of the year for the Ravens, the fifth in league play and the fourth divisional setback.

In the top of the third, freshman second baseman Maiah Lopez (Oxnard, Calif.) reached via an error and advanced to second on the miscue. She moved up to third base off a grounder to second and was brought in when Rosario lofted a one-out sacrifice fly to center field. Team captain Ashley Conway (Salem, N.H.) went 1-for-2 from the three hole in the lineup.

Senior pitcher Sabrina LoMonaco (Franklin, Mass.) started the game in the circle for the Ravens and tossed two innings allowing nine runs – one earned on seven pitches. Junior Amelia Mamone (Averill Park, N.Y.) came on in relief and let 10 runs to cross the plate. FPU's defense struggled in this contest committing five errors in the defeat.

SNHU took a 9-0 lead following the first two innings, the Ravens tacked on a run then the hosts countered with four more to take a 13-1 advantage before exploding for nine runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Penmen first baseman Emily Carbonneau provided the big blow in the fourth launching a three-run tater to right center. Carbonneau finished the game going 2-for-3 with the long ball, a game-high five RBI, two runs scored and a steal.

The Ravens will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday when they welcome conference opponent Saint Anselm College to the Bisaccia Softball Complex for their home opening double-header at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
