RINDGE, N.H. (October 6, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University rowing team competed in the inaugural Monadnock Chase & Alumni Day on campus this morning.

The race was the first ever on Pearly Pond. The team competed against Merrimack College on the 5K course during a beautiful and picturesque fall morning. The team was excited to see the fans watching from the beach and taking pictures of the team racing.

The Franklin Pierce Varsity 8 won with a time of 21:17.62. Merrimack trailed with a time of 22:49.26. The crews finished the morning with some 500m dashes which FPU defeated Merrimack in both dashes.

“We had a great race today,” said head coach Sarah Caruthers. “After a tough race last week against the Connecticut Rivers current, it felt great to be home. We were excited to have Merrimack join us for our first ever home race, and look forward to seeing them again in November on their home course.”

The Rowing program heads back to the water in two weeks when they competed at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.
