Men’s Cross Country Takes Fifth at NCAA Championship East Regional

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 6, 2021) -- Three members of the Franklin Pierce University men's cross country team earned All-Region honors on Saturday afternoon, to lead the Ravens to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan. Sophomore Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) led a trio of Vermont-bred Ravens in the top-25, with a 12th-place finish in the 143-runner field.

With All-Region honors awarded to the top-25 finishers in the 10k, it meant Summa in 12th (31:46), senior Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) in 18th (32:14) and senior Cody Tallent (Bellows Falls, Vt.) in 24th (33:04) all earned the accolade. The three Green Mountain State natives, along with the rest of the nation's All-Region honorees, will officially be recognized by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) at a later date.

Tallent was followed closely by senior Will Aylward (Peabody, Mass.), who finished in 26th for his 33:05 time, and missed out on an All-Region finish of his own by just four-tenths of a second.

In 32nd was graduate student Sebastien Vicary (Ulceby, United Kingdom), who raced a time of 33:16. Finishing in 50th with a time of 34:11 was sophomore Thomas Darrah (Thetford, Vt.). In 124th was sophomore Evan McNeice (Wethersfield, Conn.), who raced a time of 37:19 and finished out the day for the team.

It all added up to 112 points and a fifth-place finish in the 21-team field for the Ravens. Franklin Pierce rounded out the top five behind American International (25 points), Southern Connecticut State (50 points), Stonehill (89 points) and Roberts Wesleyan (93 points).
