Arlabosse Shines to Lead Men’s Track & Field at Elm City Challenge

NEW, HAVEN, Conn. (December 8, 2018) – Sophomore Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) chalked up three event wins over the weekend, including an NCAA Championships provisional qualifying mark and a school record, to lead the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team at the Elm City Challenge, hosted by Southern Connecticut State. In all, the Ravens posted 11 top-three performances, on the way to a third-place finish at the meet, out of five teams.

Host SCSU took home the meet title with 225 points, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas with 108 points and the Ravens with 99. Post (65 points) in fourth and New Haven (3 points) rounded out the field.

Arlabosse's NCAA provisional mark came in the 800 meters, which he won with a time of 1:53.16. He also punched his ticket to the NEICAAA Championships in the 600 meters, where he turned in a school-record time of 1:20.57 to win. Arlabosse made it a trio of victories by finishing first in the 3000 meters as well, with a run of 9:12.72.

The Ravens had one other win over the weekend as well, courtesy of freshman Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) in the mile, with a time of 4:43.91. Fenoff also placed second behind Arlabosse in the 3000 meters, by crossing the line in 9:21.57.

For his part, junior Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) qualified for the NEICAAA Championships in a pair of events with his performances at the Elm City Challenge. He turned in a time of 22.64 seconds to finish second in the 200-meter dash, and also finished second behind Arlabosse in the 600 meters, with a run of 1:21.93.

Elsewhere on the track, the Ravens got third-place finishes in the mile and the 4x400-meter relay. Sophomore Cody Tallent (Bellows Falls, Vt.) turned in a mile time of 4:48.32 behind Fenoff, while the 4x400-meter relay team put together a time of 3:33.31. The lineup consisted of Arlabosse, junior Jeff Reddy (Chester, N.H.), sophomore Antonio Rua (Burrillville, R.I.) and junior Walker John (Boscawen, N.H.).

In field events, Franklin Pierce had two of the top-three finishers in the high jump, as both cleared 1.85 meters. Senior Robert Boardman (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) took second via the tiebreaker, while freshman Saul Cespedes (Methuen, Mass.) placed third.

The Ravens have now hit the semester break and will return to action on Sunday, Jan. 6, when they send select athletes to the Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, New Hampshire.
