Men’s Track & Field Wins at Fitchburg State, as Part of Successful Two-Meet Day

FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 20, 2019) – Just two weeks out from the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team sent athletes to two locations on Saturday as part of the team's final preparations. In New Jersey, a pair of Ravens posted NCAA Championships provisional qualifying times at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton. In Massachusetts, it was seven event wins on the way to the team's first meet win of the season, at the Eric Loeschner Memorial Invitational, hosted by Fitchburg State.

With only two athletes in action at Princeton, the Ravens made the best of the Larry Ellis Invitational, as both posted times which met the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying standard in their event. Sophomore Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) had the day's most impressive performance for Franklin Pierce, as he finished seventh in the 800 meters, with a time of 1:50.57, which currently ranks seventh in the country and first in the NE10. Junior Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) added a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 53.28 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Ravens tore up the track at Fitchburg State on a wet Saturday back closer to home. It was seven event wins for Franklin Pierce, on the way 159 points, which was good enough to win the meet by more than 20 points. Host Fitchburg State finished second (136.5 points), narrowly edging out third-place Hudson Valley Community College (136 points).

Freshman Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) had the most objectively impressive time of the team's performances at Fitchburg State, as he moved into second place in the NE10 by winning the 10,000 meters in a time of 32.42.20. Amazingly, in an event which takes more than half an hour, Fenoff's time was just two-hundredths of a second (0.02) off of the current NE10-leading time.

Junior Jason Reed (Foxborough, Mass.) was not far behind Fenoff in the 10,000, as he took second, in a time of 33:01.00, which is currently good for third in the NE10.

The Ravens added one other NE10-significant mark on the day, as senior Robert Boardman (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) won the high jump by clearing 1.83 meters, which is currently tied for seventh in the NE10. Boardman added a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles as well, with a time of 18.87 seconds.

Freshman Croix Albee (Trenton, Maine) continued his impressive debut season with a pair of event wins on Saturday. He took first place in both the shot put (14.00m) and the discus (38.40m). The Ravens also added event wins from freshman Ethan Pezzullo (Bristol, R.I.) in the 100-meter dash (11.55), from junior Tyler Hayes (Kings Park, N.Y.) in the 1500 meters (4:13.64) and from the 4x400-meter relay team (3:35.50) to round out their septet of event victories on the day.

Hayes added a third-place finish in the 800 meters (2:02.97), where he finished one spot behind sophomore Antonio Rua (Burrillville, R.I.), who placed second (2:00.88).

Five other Ravens chalked up one top-three finish apiece to round out the team's success on Saturday at Fitchburg State. Senior Anthony Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) was second in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:35.65), freshman Devin Jones (Manchester, N.H.) was second in the 400-meter dash (53.08), freshman Kevin McCree (Mansfield, Mass.) was second in the discus (35.80m), freshman Aaron Young (Colchester, Conn.) was second in the pole vault (3.50m) and freshman Armani Mette (Randolph, Mass.) was third in the shot put (12.72m).

The Ravens return to action on Saturday, April 27, when they travel to the Capital District Classic, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.
