Men’s Track & Field Takes Fifth at SNHU, Competes at Conn. College as Well

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 13, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team collected 11 top-10 finishes on Saturday, led by a new shot put school record from freshman Croix Albee (Trenton, Maine), to post a fifth-place finish, out of 23 teams, at the Penmen Relays, hosted by Southern New Hampshire. On Friday, the Ravens also had select athletes in action at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College.

At the Silfen Invitational, it was a quartet of top-15 finishes. Freshman Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) finished 11th in the 800 meters (1:56.64), followed by junior Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) in 12th (1:56.85), while sophomore Ryan Ducrow (Amesbury, Mass.) took 13th in the 10,000 meters (34:44.99) and junior Jason Reed (Foxborough, Mass.) placed 14th in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:03.76).

On Saturday at SNHU, it was a 48.5-point outing for Franklin Pierce to finish fifth. Eastern Connecticut State took first place (86 points) at the meet, followed by Worcester State in second (83 points) and Assumption in third (72 points).

Franklin Pierce put together 11 top-10 finishes on the day, highlighted by Albee's fourth-place finish in the shot put, as his heave of 14.13 meters established a new program record. Albee also added a fifth-place finish in the discus, with a throw of 39.36 meters.

Albee was the only Raven to post multiple individual top-10s, though Fenoff doubled back from Friday night to win the 5000 meters, with a time of 15:34.28, while Reed doubled back for a third-place finish in the mile (4:25.82). In addition, freshman Devin Jones (Manchester, N.H.) finished sixth in the final of the 100-meter dash (11.37), while also running the second leg for the second-place sprint medley relay team. He was preceded by Guay and followed by sophomore Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) and junior Tyler Hayes (Kings Park, N.Y.), as the quartet put together a time of 3:34.06.

Senior Anthony Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Ethan Pezzullo (Bristol, R.I.) rounded out the top-10 finishes in track events for the Ravens on Saturday. Barinelli finished sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:41.54), while Pezzullo placed ninth in the 200-meter dash (23.26).

In field events, it was a fifth-place finish for freshman Aaron Young (Colchester, Conn.) in the pole vault (3.50m), a sixth-place finish for senior Robert Boardman (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) in the high jump (1.83m) and a seventh-place finish for freshman Armani Mette (Randolph, Mass.) in the discus (37.23m).

The Ravens return to action on Friday, April 19, when select athletes will head to Princeton for the Larry Ellis Invitational. The full squad will be back at it on Saturday, April 20, at Fitchburg State for the Eric Loeschner Memorial Invite.
