Cataldo, Relay Lead Men’s Track & Field at GBTC Invitational

BOSTON (January 22, 2017) – Senior Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) met the NEICAAA Championships qualifying mark in the 60-meter hurdles and anchored a school-record performance in the 4x220-yard relay on Sunday, leading the way for the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational, held at Harvard.

Cataldo led a one-two finish for the Ravens in the 60-meter hurdles on Sunday, with a run of 8.47 seconds to win the event. His time met the NEICAAA Championships qualifying standard in the event and was good enough to move him into fourth in the Northeast-10 Conference on the year. Junior Craig Telfer (Lebanon, N.H.) followed in second, with a time of 8.52 seconds, which is good for fifth in the league.

Cataldo also anchored a 4x220-yard relay team which put together a historic run for the program at Harvard. Junior Nicholas Jacques (Westfield, Mass.), sophomore Jaris Neville (Atlanta, Ga.), freshman Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) and Cataldo combined to win the event with a time of 1:31.18. When converted to the NCAA standard of 4x200 meters, the time stands as 1:30.66, which established a new school record. The 4x200 mark had been the longest-standing program record on the books.

Jacques and Guay both also featured in the 300 meters, an event not often run at the collegiate level. Jacques established a new school record with a time of 36.02 seconds to finish second, while Guay followed in fourth, with a time of 36.60 seconds. Jacques also placed seventh in the 60-meter dash, turning in a time of 7.37 seconds in the final, after posting a 7.17 in his preliminary heat, which ranked third.

Meanwhile, in field events, sophomore Robert Boardman (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) took second in the high jump, as he cleared 1.90 meters, a mark which is currently good for sixth in the NE10. Elsewhere, senior Mark Josselyn (Halifax, Mass.) finished second in the weight throw, with a heave of 14.40 meters, while freshman Domenic Branco (Pelham, N.H.) checked in at fourth in the shot put, with a throw of 13.42 meters.

The Ravens return to action on Jan. 27-28, for the John Thomas Invitational, hosted by Boston University.
