Minors 800m School Record Highlights Day for Track & Field at BU Last Chance Meet

BOSTON (February 28, 2016) – Sunday was the final day to post marks which will be eligible for selection to the NCAA Championships, which meant the Franklin Pierce University track & field teams sent select members to Boston University's Last Chance Meet, held at the BU Track & Tennis Center. Junior Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) made the best of his final opportunity, as he moved to seventh in the nation in the 800 meters.

Minors was the top Division II runner in the 800 meters at BU on Sunday, and finished sixth overall, running a time of 1:49.76. The time set a new indoor 800-meter record for Franklin Pierce and stood at seventh in the nation as of press time. As Sunday marked the final day of qualifying and the top 16 student-athletes in the country are selected to individual events, Minors' performance all but assured his return to the NCAA Championships in the event.

Also on the men's side of things on Sunday, senior Vinny Biunno (Montgomery, N.Y.) competed in the long jump. While he finished third, with a leap of 6.87 meters, he was unable to improve on his season-best of 7.13 meters at last week's Northeast-10 Championship.

For the women, senior Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) took part in the mile. She checked in at 5:10.80 to finish 12th and, like Biunno, was unable to produce a new season best at the Last Chance Meet.

NCAA Championships selections will officially be announced via press release at NCAA.com on Tuesday, March 1, after 6 p.m.
