Gisore Hits NCAA Provisional Mark in Mile for Men’s Track & Field at BU Valentine Invitational

Three other Ravens post top-15 NE-10 marks in respective events

Gisore Gisore posted his second NCAA Championships provisional time of the season on Saturday at BU.

BOSTON, Mass. (February 8, 2014) – Junior Antoine Gisore (Concord, N.H.) ran the Northeast-10 Conference's fastest time in the mile on Saturday, and met the NCAA Championship provisional qualifying standard in the process, as the Franklin Pierce University men's track and field team competed in the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University at BU Track & Tennis Center.

Gisore finished 55th in the mile at BU, with a time of 4:11.58, which will be converted to a 4:14.80 for NCAA purposes, as the track at BU is banked, while the 2014 NCAA Championships will be contested on a flat track. The mark knocks nearly five seconds off Gisore's previous season best and currently leads the Northeast-10 by five-hundredths of a second. With meets still yet to be reported this weekend, Gisore's time is currently tied for 24th in the nation. It is his second NCAA provisional mark of the season, as he also met the standard in the 3,000 meters, where he currently ranks 12th in the country. Gisore was also a member of Franklin Pierce's distance medley relay team, which posted a provisional time two weeks ago at BU and currently ranks 15th nationally.

Elsewhere on the track, sophomore Makopa Rugabirwa (Concord, N.H.) ran an 8:39.85 to finish 82nd in the 3,000 meters. Though it was Rugabirwa's best time of the season after conversion, he dropped one spot in the Northeast-10 in the 3,000 and is currently seventh.

In the 800 meters, freshman Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) put together a run of 1:55.82 to finish 69th. After conversion the time is a season best for Holmes, who moves into 13th in the Northeast-10.

In field events, sophomore Chris Bohi (Loudon, N.H.) had the strongest showing of the day for Franklin Pierce. His heave of 12.84 meters in the weight throw put him 38th at BU, marked a season best and moved him into ninth in the Northeast-10.

The Ravens return to the track on Saturday, Feb. 22, for the Northeast-10 Championships at Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
