RINDGE, N.H. (October 6, 2018) – In a hotly-contested match on Saturday afternoon, the Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team got the Northeast-10 Conference portion of their schedule started off on the right foot. A 4-2 edge for the Ravens in singles play erased the loss of the doubles point, as Franklin Pierce battled back for a 4-3 win over visiting Adelphi.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 2-0 (1-0 NE10), while Adelphi opens its season at 0-1 (0-1 NE10). For the Ravens, it marked the first win over the Panthers since the latter joined the NE10 in 2009-10.

Adelphi opened play by taking all three doubles matches to lay claim to the doubles point. The most competitive of the three doubles contests was at first doubles, where Adelphi freshman Pietro Sole and junior Sabin Adrian Saveluc put together a 7-5 win over Franklin Pierce sophomores Roberto Chong (Puigpunyent, Spain) and Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago).

The match would later turn on a hyper-competitive first singles contest. By the time the match built all the way to its crescendo of a third-set tiebreak, the Ravens trailed 3-2, and Adelphi was looking to put the match away. Senior James Bisazza (West Barnstable, Mass.) turned the tide though, as he was able grind out a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5) win over Sole. Franklin Pierce then finished off the 4-3 win as senior Andrew Schadt (Tolland, Conn.) rolled through freshman Finn Krause at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-2.

The Ravens also picked up wins on the afternoon at second and third singles. At second singles, it was a 6-3, 6-1 win for Chong over Saveluc. At third singles, freshman Preston Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) bettered junior David Robres de Veciana, 6-4, 6-3.

The Ravens return to the court on Thursday, Oct. 11, when they remain home to host Eastern Nazarene in a non-conference contest at 3:30 p.m. in Rindge.
