Men’s Tennis Slowed at Bentley, 6-1

WALTHAM, Mass. (April 13, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated on the road on Saturday afternoon, 6-1, at Bentley in a Northeast-10 Conference match, held on the campus of Brandeis University.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 9-7 (3-3 NE10), while Bentley improves to 12-5 (5-1 NE10). With three NE10 matches remaining in the season, Franklin Pierce sits sixth in the standings, which would represent the final qualifying spot for the NE10 Championship. A year ago, two teams finished 4-5 in NE10 play, with one qualifying and one not qualifying, based on tiebreakers. Using that as a guide, Franklin Pierce would likely need to win two of its final three league matches to consider itself comfortably into the postseason.

Bentley opened the day by taking all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. All three doubles matches were decided by identical, 6-3 scores.

Franklin Pierce's lone point of the day came at first singles, courtesy of sophomore Roberto Chong (Puigpunyent, Spain). He posted a 7-5, 6-2, straight-set win over Bentley senior Dylan Granat.

Bentley took each of the remaining five singles matches, all of which were decided in straight sets as well. The tightest match of the remaining five came at third singles, where sophomore Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago) was edged by senior Michael Fuca, 6-2, 6-4.

The Ravens return to the court on Monday, April 15, when they travel to Babson for a non-conference match at 3:15 p.m. in Wellesley, Mass.
