Men’s Soccer Pushes Winning Streak to Three Games, Tops SCSU 3-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn.  (October 12, 2019) – Though they saw their shutout streak snapped the Franklin Pierce University Men's Soccer team continued their offensive prowess on the road at Northeast-10 Conference opponent Southern Connecticut State University as the Ravens toppled the Owls 3-1.

With the win, the Ravens third in a row, Franklin Pierce improves to 7-2-1 (5-1 in NE10) while the Owls drop to 2-4-4 (1-4-2 in NE10).

All the scoring occurred in the second half of the match. Senior midfielder Marc Forner (Silla, Spain) set up Antonio Ferreira (Madrid, Spain) with a pass from the left side, Ferreira made no mistake for his fourth of the season, the junior forward now has goals in three consecutive matches.

Ferreira's tally was followed roughly ten minutes after by Forner himself. Forner was able to split two defenders before chipping the ball over Owls' keeper Bailey Bassett for the score. Forner's goal, his second of the campaign, gave the Ravens a 2-0 lead at the 63rd minute.

The Owls would get some life when Kevin Van der Pol headed home his first of the season past Ravens' keeper Clay Thomas (Franklin, Tenn.). The goal would come at the 77th minute, cutting the Ravens lead in half.

Looking for insurance late graduate forward Stefan Lohberger (Schoellnach, Germany), who leads Pierce in goals scored, was able to set one up in the 86th minute as he found junior defender Cole Neily (Litchfield, N.H.) for his first of the season. The late tally would restore the Ravens two-goal cushion, effectively halting the Owls' comeback efforts.

Thomas stopped three of four shots for the victory to improve to 5-2-1 on the year. Bassett was the busier of the two keepers stopping five of eight shots in defeat.

The Ravens will look to continue their conference dominance when they welcome Saint Michael's College to Sodexo Field on October 15th. Match time against the Purple Knights is slated for 7:00 p.m.
