Ravens Stymie Falcons 4-0 in Home Opener

RINDGE, N.H. (September 5, 2019) – Franklin Pierce University men's soccer graduate student Stefan Lohberger (Schoellnach, Germany) had a debut for the ages as the Raven forward notched three goals with two coming in the second half guiding the Crimson and Grey to a 4-0 shutout win versus non-conference opponent Felician University Thursday afternoon on Sodexo Field.

The victory pushed Pierce to 1-0 on the campaign and was the first win of head coach Ruben Resendes' tenure as leader of the men's soccer program. Felician fell to 0-1 with the setback.

Lohberger dazzled all match manufacturing his three goals off five total shots, four on goal. Sophomore forward Calvin Fillios (Hudson, Mass.) dumped in the fourth and final marker of the evening in the 64th minute.

FPU's defensive backline was stout in this contest surrendering only six total shot attempts, which all came during the final 45 minutes of play. Raven netminder Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago) recorded the 13th shutout of his collegiate career by not facing a single shot on goal.

For the guests, Alex Ficarra made five stops on nine shots on goal. His offense was outshot 18-to-6 in the contest.

Lohberger cracked the scoring column in the 40th minute when junior defender Cristobal Andreu (Castellon de la Plana, Spain) lofted a through ball to his teammate in the box for the goal conversion. In the second half, Lohberger had a one-on-one chance as he blew past his defender, Ficarra initially stopped the shot. However, Lohberger corralled the rebound and footed home the easy attempt into the open cage.

He completed the hat trick six minutes later to increase the margin to 3-0. Fillios added insurance which was his first career collegiate goal to cap the 4-0 shutout.

Junior midfielder Josep Silvestre Pitarch (Eslida, Spain) and Antonio Ferreira (Madrid, Spain) produced points assisting on Lohberger's third score and Fillios marker in the second stanza.

The Ravens remain home on Sunday when they take on the University of Bridgeport at 4:00 p.m.
