Kolakofsky, Defense Guide Ravens to Shutout Victory

RINDGE, N.H. (October 3, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team was victorious in their second straight game Wednesday evening as they shutout Northeast-10 Conference opponent Saint Anselm College 1-0 on Sodexo Field. With the win, the Ravens improve to 3-7, 2-4 NE10 while the Hawks remain winless on the year.

The Ravens defense turned in a superb effort in this contest as they allowed zero shots on goal. FPU outshot SAC 14-7 and recorded more corner kicks than their counterparts.

Junior midfielder Noam Kolakofsky (Achziv, Israel) netted his second goal of the year as he forced a turnover at the 35 yard line, corralled the loose ball, drove through the center of the pitch, juked out the goalie and deposited a liner into the lower right corner of the cage just 10 minutes into the contest.

Raven sophomore midfielder Joel Peterson (Christchurch, New Zealand) had an opportunity to expand the lead to 2-0 with 6:40 before the break, but his snipe from the left wing was just wide of the twine.

Saint Anselm had two chances in the second half to deadlock the score. Midway through the second stanza, Hawks sophomore defender Ethan Barbeau threw the ball from the left baseline into the box and had his throw-in punched away by Raven goalkeeper Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad, and Tobago).

In the 84th minute, Saint Anselm forced Poon-Lewis out of the keeper area via a fast break attempt. He originally stopped the first scoring chance, but the ball found the foot of Michael Budrewicz and he ripped a shot towards the open net that was blocked by the legs of senior defender Jordan Barnett (Grimsby, England) to clinch the game for the Ravens.

Poon-Lewis notched his second shutout victory of the season and the ninth of his collegiate career. Hawks goalkeeper Jacob Rostkowski stopped two shots in the setback.

The Crimson and Grey remain home on Sodexo Field this coming Saturday for another NE10 battle with Bentley University at 7:00 p.m.
