#19 Franklin Pierce Streaks By Assumption in Season Finale

WORCESTER (October 28, 2016) – The no. 19 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team ended their successful season on a high note with a 4-1 comeback victory against Northeast-10 Conference opponent Assumption on Friday night.

With the win, the Ravens end the year at 11-4-0, 9-4-0 in league play and the Greyhounds finish the year at 7-9-1, 6-6-1 NE-10.

Franklin Pierce locks up the no.4 seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Tournament and will host no. 5 Southern New Hampshire University in the NE-10 Quarterfinals on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.

In their lone matchup of the season, the unranked Ravens upset the previously no. 2 nationally ranked Penmen 1-0 on a Marius Preber (Jessheim, Norway) 88th minute game-winning strike. FPU last hosted a quarterfinal match in 2011.

Jason Lages opened the scoring for the Greyhouds as he took a pass from Simon Trcka and deposited it into the cage to give Assumption the early lead.

The Ravens then scored three goals within five minutes of each other to take full control of the contest. Jordan Barnett (Grimsby, England) scored his first goal of the year as the defender one timed the ball from the top of the 18 yard line. Marius Preber broke the deadlock as he and Jacob Blixt (Borrby, Sweden) connected on a through ball shot to the lower right that tickled the twine. Freshman Joe Morehead (Fairhaven, Mass.) capped off the scoring binge with his first career marker that was a rocket from 25 yards out into the upper right of the net from Hamish Cadigan (Christchurch, New Zealand).

Preber added his career-best 13th tally of the season with seven minutes to play, assisted by Cadigan for his second helper of the contest.

Aidan Abolfazli (Worcester, Mass.) earned the start in net and made one save in 83:09 to move to 1-1 on the year. Brian O'Reilly (Weymouth, Mass.) played the remainder of the game in the cage and stopped one shot.
