Preber’s Timely Tally Shocks #2 SNHU

RINDGE, N.H. (September 28, 2016) – Graduate student Marius Preber (Jessheim, Norway) tallied the lone goal in the 88th minute as the Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team upset no. 2 nationally-ranked and Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern New Hampshire University 1-0 Wednesday evening in front of a ruckus crowd at Sodexo Field. With the win, the Ravens improve to 6-1, 4-1 NE-10 on the year and the loss, the Penmen's first of the season drops them to 6-1, 4-1 NE-10.

FPU moved up a spot in the conference standings to third place with 12 points and remain three points behind Merrimack for first place. Southern New Hampshire dropped three slots with the loss to fourth place.

Preber, the conference leader in goals put the dagger in the net with two minutes to play as he rifled a one timer off a defection into the bottom right of the net past the outstretched goalkeeper Nick Zucco.

As a team, Franklin Pierce put 13 shots on net which was a season-high allowed for the Penmen as they only have allowed 29 shots through six games before tonight.

SNHU best scoring chance came in the 71st minute as Ernesto Applefield lofted a free kick into the box that was headed towards the cage by Robert Brown, but Brown put too much oomph on the rock as the ball sailed high, hit the cross bar and bounced over the end line for a FPU goal kick.

Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago) was outstanding in the victory earning his first career shutout stopping three shots and moving to 6-1. Nick Zucco made six saves in the setback and lost for the first time this season.

The Ravens look to carry their momentum into Sunday at New Haven for a 1:00 p.m. NE-10 contest.
