Victor Goncalves Named NE-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Vinny Papageorgiou named to Honor Roll

RINDGE, N.H. (November 16, 2010) – Franklin Pierce University men’s soccer junior forward Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week on Monday for his impressive performance in Saturday’s penalty kick shootout victory over Southern New Hampshire in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Goncalves scored the Ravens’ lone goal in regulation as the teams played to a 1-1 draw. In the shootout, Goncalves scored on his PK attempt to help lift Franklin Pierce to victory. Goncalves is tied for second on the team with six goals.

Also on Monday, junior goalkeeper Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.) was named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll for his impressive, six-save performance in Saturday’s contest. In addition to those six saves, he made a pair of stops in the shootout to make sure Franklin Pierce’s four PK tallies stood up.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Saturday night when the Ravens play host to Dowling in the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals at 7 p.m. in Sodexo Field. The winner will advance to the Final Four, which will be held Dec. 2 in Louisville, Ky.
