BOXSCORE

EASTON, Mass. (October 16, 2010) -- The No. 3-nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to nine-straight matches on Saturday with a 2-0 triumph at Stonehill in Easton, Mass. The Ravens ran their record to 10-1-1 overall and 8-0-1 in Northeast-10 play, while the Skyhawks dipped to 5-6-1 and 3-5-1 in league action.

Franklin Pierce managed just five shots in the match, but got four on goal, including tallies from graduate back Jeff Hay (Dudley, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Marc Santos (East Hartford, Conn.).

Santos put the Ravens up 1-0 in just the third minute as he took a pass from graduate forward Shaun Taylor (Isle of White, England) and fired a blast that beat Stonehill goalkeeper Brandon McFarlane. For Santos, it was his second goal of the season, and for Taylor, it was his first assist of the season and his first point since a goal in the season-opening win over C.W. Post back on Sept. 2.

Hay made it 2-0 in the 26th minute when he scored on a shot attempt off a corner kick from junior midfielder Paul Latif (Newcastle, England), who was credited with an assist on the play. It was the fifth goal of the season for Hay, which moved him into sole possession of the team lead for goals. Latif's assist was his ninth of the year and added to his team-high total of 17 points during the campaign.

Franklin Pierce's backs turned in another solid effort, which has become a staple during the recent unbeaten streak. Stonehill managed 11 shots, but got only one on goal. Ravens' junior goalkeeper Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass.) made the one save to earn the shutout victory and run his record to 10-1-1 on the year. The shutout win was Papageorgiou's seventh of the season and his fourth in the last five contests.

Franklin Pierce returns to action on Wednesday night when the Ravens play host to Saint Anselm at 7 p.m. in Sodexo Field.
