Franklin Piere Downs Saint Michael’s, 5-0

Schwarz and McDermott total four points each to lead Ravens

RINDGE, N.H. (October 11, 2001) - Franklin Pierce College, ranked No. 4 in this week's New England regional poll, took immediate command with two goals in the first nine-minutes of the match en route to a 5-0 victory over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action at Crystal Field this afternoon.

Senior Chris Schwarz (Babenhausen, Germany/Viktoria Aschaffenburg) and junior David McDermott (Merseyside, England/Saint Mary's) each recorded four points with a goal and two assists apiece to lead Franklin Pierce.

Schwarz netted the gamewinner just 3:02 into the match when he converted a cross from McDermott and placed a low-angle shot into the net. McDermott added a goal just 5:49 later when a serve by sophomore Felix Brillant (Montreal, Quebec/College Francais) found him for a shot into the upper lefthand corner.

McDermott and Schwarz assisted on senior Ernest Olius' (Hillside, N.J./Essex CC) marker at 25:10. McDermott flicked a cross by Schwarz through the middle of the penalty area to a wide-open Olius.

Freshman Oriol Figuerola (Barcelona, Spain/Pilgrim, RI) recorded the first multi-point match of his career as he assisted on a goal by sophomore Bjorgolfer Takefusa (Reykjavik, Iceland/Vt.-Business) at 52:38 and netted a goal of his own, at 60:37, assisted by Schwarz.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dominico Roma (Windsor, Ontario/Ste. Annes) recorded his second-straight shutout and third of the season without registering a save for Franklin Pierce. Senior goalkeeper Brian York posted three saves for Saint Michael's.

Franklin Pierce (8-3, 5-3 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday afternoon it travels to Manchester, N.H., for a match with No. 19 Southern New Hampshire University at 1 p.m. They return home on Monday to host the University of New Haven in a makeup of their postponed match from August 29 at 3 p.m. Saint Michael's (4-9, 3-7 NE-10) hosts the College of Saint Rose on Saturday.
