Franklin Pierce Trips Le Moyne, 3-2

Olius goal with 15-minutes to play gives Koolman 100th career victory

RINDGE, N.H. (October 27, 2001) - Franklin Pierce senior Ernest Olius' (Hillside, N.J./Essex CC) goal with 15:14 to play in regulation was the difference in a 3-2 victory over Le Moyne College, ranked No. 4 in this week's New England regional poll, in a key Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer match at Crystal Field this afternoon.

Olius scored with a header off a corner kick from junior Tate Travis (Detroit, Mich./UC Santa Barbara) at the near post that deflected off Le Moyne goalkeeper Craig Palleschi at the 74:46 mark.

The win was the 100th career victory for Franklin Pierce Head Coach Marco Koolman, who now sports a 100-39-6 (.710) record in six-plus years. He is now 26-10 (.722) in his second season in Rindge.

Le Moyne jumped out to a quick lead when junior Ed Negron scored off the opening rush just 25-seconds into the contest, assisted by freshman Scott Newman.

The Dolphins continued to pressure the Ravens, but Franklin Pierce knotted the score when senior Jason Bennett (Canton, Mich./Eastern Michigan) sent a long serve on the counter-attack to sophomore Bjorgolfer Takefusa (Reykjavik, Iceland/Vt.-Business), who beat one defender before scoring at 17:44.

Franklin Pierce took its first lead of the afternoon in the 32nd minute when Takefusa found Travis in the slot for an open shot.

The Dolphins answered just over six-minutes later as senior Francesco Riverso scored off a give-and-go with junior Samir Malovic the 37:58 mark.The goal was the 18th of the season for Riverso, breaking the school's single-season record.

Franklin Pierce outshot Le Moyne by a narrow margin of 14-12, with Palleschi and Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Dominico Roma (Windsor, Ontario/Ste. Annes) each recording three saves on the afternoon. The Ravens also got one defensive save during a Le Moyne flurry early in the second half.

Franklin Pierce (12-5, 8-5 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Manchester, N.H., for a Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinal match against No. 23 Southern New Hampshire University. Time is TBA. With the loss, Le Moyne (11-7, 9-4 NE-10) will now have to travel to UMass Lowell for a quarterfinal match with the River Hawks on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
