Franklin Pierce Slips Past Saint Rose, 4-1

Takefusa nets pair to lift Ravens to key Conference win

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 23, 2001) - Franklin Pierce netted four unanswered goals to erase an early deficit and record a 4-1 victory over the College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action at Bleeker Stadium tonight.

Sophomore forward Bjorgolfer Takefusa (Reykjavik, Iceland/Vt.-Business) scored both the game-tying and game-winning goals to lead Franklin Pierce. He put the Ravens on the board with just 31-seconds remaining in the first half with a penalty kick goal. He was awarded the kick after he was taken down in the Saint Rose penalty area.

Takefusa gave Franklin Pierce the lead for good as he knocked in a rebound off a shot by junior David McDermott (Merseyside, England/Saint Mary's) at 55:38. Saint Rose jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when junior Matt Jones netted a goal off a touch pass from sophomore Eirik Wanser just 9:42 into the match.

Senior Chris Schwarz (Babenhausen, Germany/Frederiksburg Aschaffenburg) put the Ravens up by two at 75:19 when he scored off a corner kick by Felix Brillant (Montreal, Quebec/College Francais). Freshman Oriol Figuerola (Barcelona, Spain/Pilgrim, R.I.) added a goal off a feed from Ernest Olius (Hillside, N.J./Essex CC) at 87:27 to round out the scoring.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dominico Roma (Windsor, Ontario/Ste. Annes) made three saves to preserve the win for Franklin Pierce. Senior Peter Anderson made seven saves for Saint Rose in 61-minutes of play, while Heidar Thornsteinsson posted one save in 29-minutes of action.

Franklin Pierce (11-5, 7-5 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Le Moyne College, ranked fourth in New England, for its final home match of the season at 1 p.m. Saint Rose closes out its season with a 4-12 record overall, 1-12 in Conference play.
