Assumption Nips No. 24 Franklin Pierce, 3-2 in OT

Greyhounds Strike in 24th Minute of Overtime for Victory

WORCESTER, Mass. (Sept. 8, 2001) - Junior midfielder Tom Aiello netted a goal in the 24th minute of extra time to lead Assumption College to a 3-2 overtime victory over Franklin Pierce College, ranked No. 24 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II Top 25 Coaches poll, in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action at H.L. Rocheleau Field this afternoon.

The Ravens trailed 2-1 until senior Ernest Olius (Hillside, N.J./Essex CC) scored the equalizer with just 7:13 remaining in regulation. Olius was assisted by junior David McDermott (Merseyside, England/Saint Mary's), who recorded FPC's first goal of the afternoon at 23:13 to give the Ravens a 1-0 advantage.

Assumption answered as senior Jason Weinheimer evened the match with an unassisted strike at 36:59. The Greyhounds took their first lead of the match with a marker from freshman Luke Del Cid at 51:19, assisted by Aiello.

Senior goalkeeper Jason Dufault earned the win with four saves, while Franklin Pierce junior Chris Hughes (Lenzie, Scotland/Lenzie Academy) registered two saves.

Franklin Pierce (2-1, 1-1 NE-10) returns to action on Friday, September 14, when they travel to Erie, Pa., for a non-conference match with Mercyhurst College at 4 p.m.
