Castorf’s Two Points Puts Him Second All-Time, Ravens Felled 21-7 By #11 Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (April 16, 2019) – Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse senior attack Jake Castorf (Holbrook, N.Y.), senior attack Luke Tracy (Windham, N.H.) and junior attack Colin Doherty (Reading, Mass.) each scored two goals apiece during a 21-7 setback to Northeast-10 Conference and no. 11 nationally-ranked Pace University Tuesday afternoon at Pace Stadium. The victory improves the Setters mark to 10-3, 6-3 NE10 while the Ravens drop to 5-6, 3-6 NE10.

Castorf's two-point effort gives him 130 in his storied Raven career. The team captain passed Casey Burnett's 129 to move into second all-time in program history in total points. So far this season Castorf has set new personal bests in goals (26) and points (39). He is also deadlocked into fourth place all-time in total goals with Burnett (84) and trails Kevin Dargin (85) and former teammate Sean Delea (88) for the second and third slots.

Senior attack Matt Brewster (Merrimack, N.H.) and faceoff specialist Lawrence Bastianelli (Rocky Point, N.Y.) chipped in helpers for Pierce. Senior goalie Brian Schiavi (Dracut, Mass.) collected first career start in the cage and made a career-high 10 saves. Nathan Taylor (Danville, N.H.) came on in relief for 2:41 of the contest.

Pace was led by a four goal and four assist effort by Joseph Diggle. He scooped up one loose ball and caused one turnover as well. Daniel Keenan chipped in four goals of his own with one assist. Louis Ragusa earned the win and improved to 10-3 on the year stopping nine shots and allowing only five goals.

The Setters defensive unit forced the Ravens in 23 turnovers. Their offense also outshot the Crimson and Grey 47-to-29 and scored four goals on their six man-advantage chances.

The hosts shutout the Ravens in the first quarter producing five straight goals with one coming on the advantage. Diggle was the key contributor recording one goal and two assists during the scoring spurt. Doherty got his squad on the board in the second quarter with two unassisted goals to cut into the score at 5-2. Pace answered dumping in six consecutive scores until a Brewster to Castorf connection at the end of the half made the Raven deficit 11-3.

With Pace up by 10 in the third quarter, Tracy did all that he could to drop the margin into single figures netting both of his markers in the second half making it a nine-point game 14-5 midway through the period. The Setters countered with another mini-run to take control of the contest for good.

The Ravens return home to the friendly confines of Sodexo Field on Saturday for their Senior Day contest against NE10 foe the College of Saint Rose at 1:00 p.m.
