Men’s Lacrosse Batters SNHU 9-2, Defense Holds Penmen to Lowest Scoring Output Since 2015

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 12, 2019) – Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse players Mike Alibrandi (Holliston, Mass.) and Jake Castorf (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored three goals each as the Ravens dominated Northeast-10 Conference and cross-state rival Southern New Hampshire University 9-2 under the lights Friday night at Penmen Stadium. The win halts a four-game losing streak for the Crimson and Grey, evens up their overall record at 5-5 and sends them to 3-5 in league play while the hosts fall to 3-9, 2-7 NE10.

Pierce's defense caused eight turnovers and forced their counterparts into 20 on the night. Sophomore goalie Justin Lorenzo (Goshen, N.Y.) matched a season-high 12 saves and allowed under two goals for the third time in his collegiate career. SNHU's two goals are the lowest they've scored in a single game since the 2015 season when they manufactured two scores in a 10-2 setback to no. 9 nationally-ranked the University of Mount Olive back on March 7, 2015.

Freshman Stephen Ell (Peabody, Mass.), senior Callan Lemay (Wilton, N.Y.) and sophomore Josh Dorr (Brunswick, Maine) chipped in the other goals for FPU while senior Matt Brewster (Merrimack, N.H.) dished off an assist.

On offense, Franklin Pierce had the clear shot advantage outshooting SNHU 42-to-25 in the match. They also were 18-of-20 (90%) on clear attempts and scooped up more ground balls (26-to-22).

The Ravens scored three goals in the first quarter. Alibrandi punched home his 15th tally of the season about four minutes into the contest. Seconds passed until Castorf expanded the edge to 2-0 via an unassisted tally. With 22 ticks left in the opening stanza, Brewster fed Alibrandi for his second goal of the game giving the Ravens an early big lead.

SNHU finally broke through 53 seconds into the second quarter when Stephen Dubois cashed in the Penmen's first goal of the game. The Ravens responded notching three consecutive tallies to increase the margin to 6-1 thanks to Lemay's second marker of the campaign.

The Penmen punched in only one more goal and Castorf iced the game late in the fourth with two scores to complete the hat trick.

Franklin Pierce has three games remaining and they play their last road contest, Tuesday at no. 9 nationally-ranked Pace University at 3:30 p.m.
