Hawks Sky By Ravens in Conference Affair

RINDGE, N.H. (March 28, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team concluded the month of March on Tuesday with a 16-5 Northeast-10 Conference setback to no. 17 nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College. With the fourth straight victory, the Hawks climb to 4-1 and remain undefeated in conference play (3-0) while the Ravens tumble to 3-2 and 1-2 in league play.

Both teams combined to rack up only three goals in the first quarter until the guests exploded for eight unanswered markers. Hawks sophomore midfielder Patrick Sweeney led all players with seven goals and goalkeeper Lucas DeAngelo stopped a season-best 17 shots.

The Ravens tallied the first goal of the game just 1:16 into the contest when Ben Lassow (Mansfield, Conn.) teamed up with Sean Delea (Hampstead, N.H.) for a catch and shoot bouncing snipe from the close right wing as the Crimson and Grey held the early 1-0 advantage.

Sweeney got the Hawks on the board exactly 50 seconds later by burying a top shelf shot to knot the score. With 1:08 left in the stanza, Sweeney deposited another high shot from the far right wing to break the deadlock.

In the second James Olsen made the score 3-1 in favor of the guests with 9:19 to go before intermission. The Ravens kept the game close for the most part by trading blows and hits with their counterparts until Saint Anselm scored three times in the final 84 seconds to move ahead 6-1 at the break.

Saint Anselm kept adding on as Anthony Busconi and Sweeney upped the lead to 8-1. The Ravens started to gain some momentum after winning a few face-offs. Delea and freshman Jalen Paul (Boston, Mass.) tallied ginos a few seconds apart from each other to cut into the deficit at 8-3. 23 seconds remained on the clock when Jake Castorf (Holbrook, N.Y.) sniped a score from the top of the crease as the Ravens trailed 9-4 after three periods.

The Hawks would put the game away in the fourth as they manufactured seven goals and they departed rainy Rindge with a 16-5 win.

Castorf and Delea paced the Ravens with a goal and an assist apiece. Jack Carney (Dumbarton, N.H.) scored his 11th goal of the year while netminder Connor Wacksman (Guilderland, N.Y.) tied a season-high with 12 saves and fell to 3-2 overall.

The Ravens begin the month of April with a tough test on the road as they travel to no. 3 nationally-ranked Le Moyne College on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. contest with the Dolphins.
