BOXSCORE

RINDGE, N.H. (April 22, 2011) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s lacrosse team shook off a slow start in the first quarter and battled Saint Anselm tough the rest of the way, but it wasn’t enough as the Ravens dropped a 9-4 decision to the Hawks on Friday afternoon at Sodexo Field in Rindge. Franklin Pierce fell to 3-9 on the season and 1-8 in the Northeast-10, while Saint Anselm improved to 2-9 and 2-6 in league play.

Franklin Pierce senior attackman Nate Wood (Binghamton, N.Y.) had a three-point afternoon as he scored a pair of goals and assisted on another. Junior attacker Jimmy McInnis (Amherst, N.H.) assisted on two tallies for a two-point contest.

Freshman goalie Tim Izzo (Trumbull, Conn.) started in net for the Ravens and made a solid 11 saves despite suffering the loss to fall to 3-9 on the year.

Tim Glynn, Ryan Henry and Daniel Sullivan each tossed in a pair of goals to spark Saint Anselm’s offensive attack. However, it was the stellar play of Hawks goalie Dan Flynn that made his team’s effort stand up to get the win. Franklin Pierce out-shot St. A’s by a 44-31 count, but Flynn brushed aside 17 shots to pick up the win to improve to 2-4 on the season.

Saint Anselm out-shot the Ravens, 9-4, in the opening 15 minutes and eventually took a 3-0 lead at the end of one quarter. Glynn scored a little more than two minutes into the contest and Henry and Andrew Messner followed with a goal apiece minutes later to stake the Hawks to the three-goal advantage.

Henry tossed in another marker 90 seconds into the second quarter to make it 4-0 Saint Anselm, but Franklin Pierce started to respond with a more spirited effort after that. The Ravens out-shot the Hawks, 15-8, in the period, but were only able to solve Flynn twice in the stanza. Wood scored a man-up goal off an assist from McInnis at the 12:08 mark, and Ryan Dintaman (Northfield, Mass.) scored off a Wood feed with a little more than four minutes left in the half. Outside of those two goals allowed, Flynn made seven saves in the period to help keep his team in front at 6-2 going into halftime.

Saint Anselm extended its lead to 8-2 midway through the third quarter with goals from Sullivan and Travis Killeen. Franklin Pierce was able to put two more goals in to pull within 8-4, as Wood scored with 4:30 left in the third and Brendan Cahill (Hollis, N.H.) scored with 8:49 left in the fourth. However, Michael DeVita scored for Saint Anselm just moments later to put the game out of reach and seal the win for Saint Anselm.

Franklin Pierce returns to action next Saturday when the Ravens play host to Adelphi at 12 p.m. in Sodexo Field. It will mark the final game of the 2011 season for the Ravens as it will also be Senior Day.
