Men's Lacrosse Battles Hard in Tough 9-7 Loss at Pace
Noonan scores three times; two goals apiece from Dintaman and Harries
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (March 26, 2011) -- The Franklin
Pierce University men's lacrosse team put in a strong effort on
Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Ravens dropped a close 9-7
decision to Pace in Pleasantville, N.Y. The Ravens dipped to 2-3
overall and 0-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Setters improved to
4-2 and 1-1 in league play.
Three Ravens combined to score all seven goals for Franklin
Pierce, including three from freshman midfielder Edward
Noonan (Foxboro, Mass.) and two apiece from junior
midfielder Ryan Dintaman (Northfield, Mass.) and
junior midfielder Eric Harries (Dunstable,
Mass.).
Freshman goaltender Tim Izzo (Trumbull, Conn.) turned in a solid
effort in net for the Ravens as he stopped 11 shots, despite
suffering the loss to fall to 2-3 on the season.
Pace scored twice in the game's first four minutes, but the Ravens
were quick to answer with a pair of tallies in a 75-second span to
knot the score at 2-2. Noonan tossed in Franklin Pierce's first
marker at the 7:30 mark, and Dintaman tied it with 6:15 remaining
in the first quarter when he took a pass from senior Jack
Scanlan (Great Neck, N.Y.) and slipped a shot past the
Pace goalie.
Pace, though, had a counter of its own and scored five-straight
goals, including all four tallies in the second quarter to take a
7-2 advantage into halftime.
Franklin Pierce shook off Pace's rally and came out firing in the
third quarter and scored three-straight tallies to pull within two
at 7-5. Dintaman scored his second of the game with 12:46 remaining
in the frame and Harries threw in back-to-back markers in a
three-and-a-half minute span midway through the quarter.
The Setters then put in two goals to open up a 9-5 advantage, but
Noonan scored with just :01 left in the third to bring the Ravens
to within three goals heading into the fourth quarter.
Noonan notched the hat-trick with a goal at the 9:15 mark of the
fourth, but the Ravens could not pull any closer. Izzo kept
Franklin Pierce in the contest throughout the fourth quarter as he
made several strong saves. For Noonan, it ran his streak to
five-straight games with at least one point and four-consecutive
contests with multiple points.
Pace got two goals apiece from Kevin Kladick, John Kolesar and
Thomas Earl.
Franklin Pierce returns to action Wednesday night when the Ravens
travel to Springfield, Mass. to face American International at 7
p.m. at Abdow Field.
