Dintaman, Wood Help Men’s Lacrosse Fight Off Late Rally to Defeat American International, 12-10

Dintaman scores four times, tallies five points; Wood nets hat trick, five points

Ryan Dintaman Ryan Dintaman scored four goals and added an assist on Wednesday afternoon against American International.

RINDGE, N.H. (March 24, 2010) – Sophomore midfielder Ryan Dintaman (Northfield, Mass.) scored four goals and added an assist to total five points on Wednesday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team to a 12-10 victory over American International in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Junior attack Nate Wood (Binghamton, N.Y.) also scored five points for the Ravens on three goals and two assists. Graduate student midfielder Mike Szawlowski led American International with two goals and one assist for three points.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 4-0 (1-0 Northeast-10) and has won four games in a season for the first time in team history. With the loss, American International falls to 1-4 (0-1 Northeast-10).

American International came out with the first two goals of the contest, by junior midfielder Dave MacIssac and graduate student midfielder Rich Reichert, in a low-scoring first quarter. Franklin Pierce would get the final goal of the quarter, from Dintaman, and sophomore midfielder Pat Doliber (Marblehead, Mass.) scored 4:29 into the second quarter to draw the Ravens level at 2-2. Freshman attack Brendan Cahill (Hollis, N.H.) assisted on each of Franklin Pierce's first two goals of the day.

From there, Franklin Pierce gave up the next goal as MacIssac struck again to give AIC a 3-2 lead. However, the Ravens would score the last two goals of the half, including Cahill's third point and first goal of the afternoon on a feed from Wood and Dintaman's second goal of the afternoon, which came with just three seconds remaining in the second quarter. The Ravens took a 5-3 lead into halftime.

In the first half, Franklin Pierce held a 27-15 advantage in shots and a 21-19 edge in ground balls.

Franklin Pierce netted the first four goals after half time, over the opening 13:20 of the third quarter to charge to a 9-5 lead. Dintaman scored twice in the stretch, while Wood chipped in a goal and an assist.

From there, American International would stage a furious comeback, as it scored seven of the game's next nine goals, including a pair each from Szawlowski and freshman attack Brett Serriello. Graduate student attack Alex Walter capped the rally with a goal off a feed from junior attack Aaron McNab that drew the Yellow Jackets into a 10-10 tie with 4:23 to play in the contest.

Wood would finish the game in style for the Ravens, as he took a pass from sophomore attack Ryan Palmer (Hinesburg, Vt.) and found the net for the game-winning goal, which gave Franklin Pierce an 11-10 lead with 2:36 to play. Wood would strike once more, on a feed from Doliber with 48 seconds to play which put the game away.

Franklin Pierce finished the game with a 45-33 advantage in shots, while American International held a 42-38 edge in ground balls. Franklin Pierce went 1-for-5 on extra-man opportunities and American International finished 0-for-2.

In net, junior goalkeeper Shea Campbell (Centerport, N.Y.) made nine saves to earn the win for Franklin Pierce. Sophomore Eric Whettell stopped 12 shots and took the loss between the pipes for American International.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, March 27, when they travel to Bentley for a Northeast-10 contest at 1 p.m. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on April 13 against Southern New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
