Cahill tallies six points to lead Ravens

Brendan Cahill scored three goals and added three assists in the
win over Massachusetts Boston on Saturday.
RINDGE, N.H. (March 13, 2010) – Freshman attacker Brendan Cahill (Hollis, N.H.) scored three goals and added three assists and junior attacker Nate Wood (Binghamton, N.Y.) scored a game-high five goals on Saturday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team to 15-3 victory over Massachusetts Boston in non-conference action at Sodexo Field. In all, six different Ravens tallied three or more points in the contest.
With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 2-0 (0-0 Northeast-10) and surpasses its win total from a year ago. With the loss, Massachusetts Boston falls to 0-2 (0-0 Little East).
Franklin Pierce opened the game with the first nine goals of the contest over the first 10:38 of the first quarter. In that stretch, Cahill scored twice and added a pair of assists, while Wood scored three goals. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Dintaman (Northfield, Mass.) picked up two assists in the first quarter and both sophomore attacker Jimmy McInnis (Amherst, N.H.) and freshman midfielder Scott MacDonald (Marshfield, Mass.) each notched a goal and an assist. A goal by junior midfielder John Scanlan (Great Neck, N.Y.) on a feed from Dintaman just under five minutes into the game would later prove to be the game-winner.
Massachusetts Boston got on the scoreboard with 3:37 to play in the first quarter, when senior attacker Dale Nunn popped home an unassisted score. Franklin Pierce would make it 10-1 heading into halftime when Cahill scored on a feed from McInnis with 4:54 to play in the second quarter. Franklin Pierce attempted 21 shots in the first half to 20 for Massachusetts Boston.
The two teams traded goals in the third quarter, with Franklin Pierce emerging with a 13-3 lead. Wood scored twice in the quarter, while McInnis added a goal and an assist. Freshman attacker Ryan Cassidy and senior midfielder Al Craven scored in the third period for Massachusetts Boston.
Franklin Pierce added goals from Scanlan and MacDonald in the fourth quarter to create the 15-3 final. The Ravens finished the afternoon with a 44-35 advantage in shots.
In net, junior goalkeeper Shea Campbell (Centerport, N.Y.) made 13 saves to pick up the win for Franklin Pierce. Freshman Jake Gostanian stopped 10 shots between the pipes for Massachusetts Boston.
The Ravens return to the field on Thursday, March 18, when they travel to Mercy for a non-conference contest at 1 p.m.
